Multi effects and single effects

Question:
is it better for me to get a multi effects unit of a bunch of single effects pedals. which sound is better?
Answer:
Well I had the same delima. I had bought an RP80 but after a while I bought a bunch of single pedals. I like the single pedals more but I still use the RP80 for alot of stuff.

srry man but me and like every gutiar player in church have to dis agree with u on taht but its a good pedal if ur trying to modulate artist's but if ur watning to create ur own sound its alot harder to come buy.some gutiar players and I were allowed to go to GC and pick an effects pedal to use and we picked teh vox tonelbas se its great cause u can adjust anything and u can do some much modifying so my advice would be if u have the money get the vox.its great but first of all listen to the sugesstions then go try out at your music store what we've suggested or waht u think you woudl like.
Answer:
Whoa I could barely read your sentence(s).. (need periods) Anyway, the XT Live is one of the most versatile pedals. And if you play with it more, you can get your own sound just fine.

Lincoln Brewster disagrees with you...and other guitarists I know disagree with you. While the Vox Tonelab is certainly a viable option, the PODxt LIVE is definitely a versatile machine if you take the time to explore what's going on.

I use the RP100 along with a vol, wah, phaser, flanger, chorus and 2 distortions...Makes for a large board..BUT...There is A LOT of flexibility. After a while (after blowing it off) I realized the RP-100 had some really quality effects on it.
Answer:
Best sound quality (based on sampling/processing) is found in the ZOOM G2 hands down. In 6 months to a year this will probably not be so, but right now it has the highest sampling rate (96khz) of any digital multi effects box. At $100 I've been considering picking one up for delays, reverbs, and trem, to add to my pedal board.
As for the original question, I would say for sheer ease of tweakability, single effects are best, and they tend to have better sound quality (the non-digital ones anyways). I tend to reccomend analog single effects for distortion/overdrive/fuzz, but you can really go either way for modulation and delay effects.
Answer:
I had a Digitech RP50 a while back... yuck. I stay away from Digitech.
Answer:
I relied on the onboard effects on my POD for a long time, but once I got into single effects, I've never looked back. Again, it depends on money and use. If you're not playing often, and are looking for as wide a range of tones as possible, go multi. I like to have as much control as possible to shape tone; so put a $150 multi pedal against a $150 single effect, general rule is you'll get a wider range of what you can do with that effect.
Answer:
Since you don't need a lot of effects, just get a few good single effects.
