"Gone" Verse
Question: On the verse of toby mac's "gone" the heavy over-drive seems to have a lot of... i don't know... sustain? drive? not shure what the word is. But when I play it with heavy over-drive the note doesn't sound as long. U know what I mean? What can I do to get my p-muted power chords to have more of a "gone" fell to it? Just put on more drive? Answer: Palm mutes don't have sustain, period. Answer: Originally Posted by Building429_Boy Palm mutes don't have sustain, period. haha, mine do. I don't palm mute to well. BUt do you get what I mean? Answer: Not really. Post a clip if possible. Answer: thats were I fall short. I still don't know hw to do that. yu could probably find a clip at toby's website. Answer: ya, I just checked and you can get sound clips at his site. it will go a LOT faster though if you have DSL (duh) Answer: Perhaps you need to have a lighter mute on it. Answer: Yeah, it's not really a heavy mute. Also, try messing with your EQ to get a closer sound. -Nick Answer: The chorus of the song uses EQ to boost the treble. Its turned off on the verse. And you should palm mute the sound to where it only lasts between .25-.5 seconds on the verse with each strum. This is the first real rock song I learned how to play a long time ago. Its my favorite! To make it sound better on the verse, use more distortion than you do on the chorus...it makes the mutes sound more chunky like they do in the song. I actually got to talk to Tim Rosenau, Toby's guitarist. That guy is amazing...and amazingly tall. Very friendly. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
