Hi. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using Mesa Boogie preamps and foot pedals like the tri-axis, quad, bottle rocket and V-twin. I currently use a TD50-C Crate amp. Will the Mesa Boogie preamps be to powerful for a 50watt amp? (Will the Mesa Boogie preamps damage my amp?) Which Mesa Boogie preamp would you advise for a Styper "In God We Trust" albumn type of of distortion. I know Crate amps have a bad rep but the TD50-C is perfect for home play and I'm just looking to improve my tone for home play. Any suggestions on the Mesa Boogie preamps? Thanks. Matthew.

No. Any preamp is compatible with any power amp. All preamps, no matter if they come from a little solid state practice amp or a huge tube head, are similar in output, that is, very low. Hook it up to the effects loop in, optimally. It will also work going into the normal amp input, though the Crates preamp will affect the tone, then.
