Looking for guitar, amp, pedals, other accessories
Question: Hey I'm new to the forums, but I'm interested in buying a new guitar, maybe an amp and a pedal(s) I've seen people on the forums say they've caught monster deals by buying guitars for $1200 for $400...any tips for where I can catch deals like that? I've been eyeing a fender strat for a while as there was a $100 dollar rebate making it $744.....(American series strat) But then the price went up and I decided I didn't have the cash to get it. So now I'm interested in getting an epiphone les paul standard...$600 bucks and I've played some at stores, they sound great and look great....the only problem is that it's not a gibson...haha So anyways pretty good gibson's are around the 1200 dollar range so if anyone can tell me where or if they have a gibson les paul that was 1200, now 400-700 bucks I'd appreciate it a lot. Answer: As far as Gobson deals, I think you are thinking of Rainer and the LP he got for $400. However, I think that was a once in a lifetime thing - a buyer is desperate for money and advertises in the paper and takes whatever he can get. You might check your local classifieds, but don't get to hopeful. As far as other recommendations, I would look at the MIM Fender Strats. They really aren't that much worse then the American ones. They just don't have quite the same quality of pickups and wiring and that can be changed for less then the cost of the American Strat on sale. That would be me, huh? Yeah, that was prolly a once-in-forever deal. It takes a lot of patience and time looking for them online, in classifeds, wherever. You might get lucky and score a cheap one, but it's highly doubtful. Finding Gibby LP's in the $700-800 range isn't too uncommon, but if you want a $400, it's really, really doubtful you'll find it. Used is the key for great gear. Answer: Ebay is the place if you want a great deal on a high dollar guitar. Obviously you buy from a highly rated seller with proper feedback. Below are a few examples of recently ended Gibson Studios to show you and example of what is out there. You may not care about owning a Gibson Studio but it shows you what kind of money can be saved. A new Gibson Studio sells for around $1200.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...744691769&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...747725188&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...746637300&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...747176547&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...748334372&rd=1 Answer: ... this isn't a classified ad, is it? Answer: Originally Posted by pyoo323 So now I'm interested in getting an epiphone les paul standard...$600 bucks As long as you are paying $600 get the LP custom. $600 for a standard is a rip-off to my knowlege. Answer: **shameless plug for my personal preference when it comes to value** Before you buy, at least take a look at Washburn. Lesser-known name, very good bang for the buck. Many times you can find a brand new USA custom shop model that is a couple of years old that you can buy for a fraction of retail. Mine (WM100, sort of PRS-like) was 4 years old but unsold, $1,699 list price, I paid $380. You can find them pretty regularly on ebay or your local Washburn dealer (if you can find one - mine is about 60 miles away) may possibly have one. My local dealer still has one (CT3, sort of Les Paul-ish) from about '99 or so, and he said "make me an offer. I may suprise you." I don't know much about their Strat-type models, but I'm sure there are similar values out there. Answer: Originally Posted by bobthecockroach ... this isn't a classified ad, is it? Yes it is. Geez, for some reason I was thinking it was in classifieds and was wondering why you said that...silly me. whoooooooosh! Used is good.[/shameless-self-promotion] Answer: Originally Posted by pyoo323 Hey I'm new to the forums, but I'm interested in buying a new guitar, maybe an amp and a pedal(s) I've seen people on the forums say they've caught monster deals by buying guitars for $1200 for $400...any tips for where I can catch deals like that?
