help with what these pedals do...

Question:
ok, so i'm looking through several artist's rigs, trying to figure out what effects i'm interested in, yet i can't figure out what some pedals do. i'll post more as i hace q's.
dod fx-25 envelope filter-what does it do? sound like?
Answer:
An envelope filter, if I remember correctly, is the same as/ similar to an auto wah, if you've ever seen/heard of those.
Anyways, I think it is a wah uses the amplitude of the signal coming in as the variable for the wah... so, the harder the note attack, the stronger the wah, and the wah diminishes as the note fades off... at least thats what my amp does with it.
Answer:
Yeah post some more details like whats your price range and what kind of guitar you want to play. There are billions of effects out there, that by time I just looked through, listened to demos to see what they did. But that was before I knew much about effects.
Answer:
i will, in a few days when i'm more informed of what types of effetcs i want. i'll post pics of my humble rig, too.
Answer:
so what exactly does an auto-wah sound like? i'm pretty sure (or was) what a wah sounds like, but start from suqare one to be sure.
Answer:
I have one somewhere in the closet. I seldom use it... Maybe I can dig it out and post a clip...

Like a wah wah with a sharper attack . . . instead of being controlled by the pedal movements, it's controlled by your attack and how loud you're playing. I have on and use it frequently. The clips on Musicians Friend dont really do it justice, but the 3rd and 4th ones are ok:

If you can find it on any other sites for sale I'll tell you if I think the clips are decent or not. If not I'll send you an Mp3 off a CD on which I am using mine.

thx for trying, but those links didn't work, i don't have realplayer (hate it, with a passion) did you keep the carvin spiffy? cause i managed to somehow get rid of the massive bass overkill in mine, i think it was the speakers breaking in.

Long story, I bought a second Carvin at a discounted price for the Midwest, bought the Fender for the East Coast, and sent the first Carvin back. So I have both amps but they're in different parts of the country. I like them both for different reasons, but I really do think the Fender suits me better. The Carvin is better quality amp.
eMail me mtneuman@mailbag.com, and anyone else who wants the CD clip of the DOD FX25b Envelope Filter.

If you like wah-wah, and use it a lot, you'll like the envelope filter . . . and it allows you to mix it up a bit so you're not using wah on on everything.
