peaveys i think not
Question: i hate to stereotype. but i have noticed that christian musicians are obsessed with peavey. why is that. i havent ever heard a peavey amp or guitar that was particularly sweet. even the 5150's that so many people in hardcore music are using now, didnt really start showing up until everyone figured out norma jean used them. even still the tone coming out of them is not anything i would use for just a nice overdriven sound. oh well all the same.just wondering. Answer: it goes over good with the jazz kids like my self. I used to own a peavy envoy 110. it was a transtube series. It had a really nice clean sound with my fender strat, but the only problem was was that peavy kept poppin out newer amps like how dell keeps poppin out thier computers. So the $300.00 dollar amp I bought would only sell for $80 at the same place I bought it But hey if you're into good clean sounds, the peavy's aren't bad for cheap money Answer: Originally Posted by eyhd i hate to stereotype. but i have noticed that christian musicians are obsessed with peavey. why is that. i havent ever heard a peavey amp or guitar that was particularly sweet. even the 5150's that so many people in hardcore music are using now, didnt really start showing up until everyone figured out norma jean used them. even still the tone coming out of them is not anything i would use for just a nice overdriven sound. oh well all the same.just wondering. 5150's were popularized by Eddie Van Halen, not Norma Jean. I play a Peavey Rockmaster. I use a hendrix like distortion, all the way to harsh gain. However, mine does not have a mellow overdrive, I use a different preamp for that tone. An H & K tubeman. Alot of my favorite bands use 1 of 2 types of amps. The mesa rectifier series (usually the triple, and double), and the peavy 5150. So, i would say their sound is perfect for the music their being used for. But to each his own I guess. There is no *heavy metal amp*. But some amps just seem better for certain styles i think. Answer: I'd find it kinda funny if a Christian artist endorsed the Peavey XXX... On that note, Mesa is rediculously overrated. I don't think they are that great of amps. Answer: Originally Posted by Mattlock I'd find it kinda funny if a Christian artist endorsed the Peavey XXX... i'd endorse it...except i think i'd need more wattage for bass. Answer: Thesteve, correct me if I am wrong here, but most high gain amps I have heard don't have the best bluesy drive. I bought a Peavey because it had the raw tube sound I wanted. Budget wasn't the biggest concern. I would have used a 5150 if I could have found one in the right price range, (A rockmaster like I have is very similar) and hadn't had a power amp I liked. 5150's are famous for their sound. Have been long before Norma Jean changed their name from the luti-kris. I could trash on fender tube amps as having a lousy high gain sound, but thats not what their strong suit is. Answer: Someone already stated along the same lines . . . it's not that Peavey are great amps, it's that they are great amps for what you pay. I dont care for their sound much, but you do get a lot of amp for your money. And not only that, Peavey stuff is durable. It has been said you can throw it off a 2 story building and go right on using it. It's the same reason SM58 mics are industry standard. Sure there are better sounding mics, but a better $100 mic you can count on? The reason that Peavey products are cheap isn't because they're lower quality than their higher priced counterparts, it's because Peavey makes most of it's own stuff...speakers, cabs, etc...it's all made by Peavey in Peavey factories...this reduces the price because they don't have to pay a middle man. I got a peavey cause I liked the sound. I could have gone fender or most other brands... Answer: If I'd say anything is obsessed over by CHristian musicians, I'd say Taylor guitars. Yeah, I love them, too. With Peavey, I know a lot of people here love them because a lot of people here are more budget-minded. And the fact that Peavey makes or has made some of the best high-gain tube amps to be alternatives to Marshall, Mesa, etc. helps. Peavey hasn't been too affected by a "legend" status that tends to drive prices up. Note that EVH made Marshall JCMs famous much more then he ever made the 5150 famous. (only found out they were mesa's after i really digged the tones.) but i would much rather pay less for a non-hand built version. good greif, not everyone really cares if the amp is hand made or not. anyway, i love that mesa crunch, and no, i'm not getting one...till i'm a much better player, have a better guitar and have a place/funds for one. the next amp i buy will be bought based off it's tone, rather than price/value/versatility (well okay, maybe versatility needs to be looked at. Answer: I like Peavey. I just ordered a Peavey Valveking tube amp. It was a very friendly price so i got it. I gear it has great distortion. A lot of people use peavey cause there stuff is has friendly prices and there great quality. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
