The Four Basic Amp types..
Question: Basically most all amps are Fender, Vox, Marshall, or Mesa They are kinda like the primary colors, you mix them to come up with everything in between. So which do you like the best? Then what would you get... (ex: Fender:Headstrong, Matchless:Vox, etc) I have always thought amps to be a really cool and vital part of a setup. I'd like something in the Vox area or a cross between Fender/Early marshall so I have been looking into matchless and Naylor... Answer: Originally Posted by Hellfighter Basically most all amps are Fender, Vox, Marshall, or Mesa Not really. Early Marshalls were just copies of the Fender Bassman. that being said, they're all apples and oranges...you can't really compare Fender clean or Mesa high gain to any of the others. Yes, early marshalls were basically fenders, and early mesa's were just juiced up fenders, but they have become much different. And I am not asking you to compare them, I am asking which you prefer; which you would most use if you had your choice. Then I am asking for people to reference some boutique builders they know of to shed some light on the high end manufacturers that make these types of amps... Answer: Originally Posted by Hellfighter which you would most use if you had your choice. One of each. Often, boutique amps will try to be hybrids of those amps, and end up being neither of them. Answer: 1) you need to calm down 2) you need to realize that your post isn't very specific. 3) you need to realize that i'm not trashing your posts at all. i'm just making statements. 4) you need to drop the sarcasm, it's not really a way to make friends. 5) As it goes, I've pretty much been a fan of classic Fender cleans, but that's because I've really only dealt with amps based on vintage, and traditional Fender clean voicings. I get my overdrive from a pedal. 6) I use an Acoustic 150 head through a Fender 4x12 cab for my primary church rig. you can only find them used because the company is no longer in business. it gets an incredibly clean tone, and has handled my pedals well. Answer: It would be tough to choose between fender and vox as far as which I would buy. Probably fender. They have the cleanest clean sound. Vox sound is awesome but overall probably less versitile since you can get a fender amp to sound like anything if you put a good enough distortion in front of it. Answer: I'd probably take a Vox AC30. It suits my playing better than the other ones mentioned. Answer: Well I've never played a vox ac 30 or mesa befor.... So between fender and marshall i'd go with... that's tough, but i say fender. Answer: Originally Posted by guitarfreak217 I'd probably take a Vox AC30. Yep. Not a fan of Mesa or Marshall. And Fender... well, Fender cleans are nice, but distortion... Forget about it. Answer: Originally Posted by MJ_Avalanche Yep. Out of the above options, I'd go for fender or vox. Fender, I guess. -Nick Answer: Originally Posted by MJ_Avalanche Yep. I'll probably be in the market for an AC30 in a couple years... If I could get one of any of those types of amp now, I'd get a Mesa-esque recto-amp. A Rivera. (more Marshally then a Mesa, mut more Mesa-y then a Marshall... if that makes sense) Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. But distortion from an AC30?
