old amp crackles in and out
Question: i have an old Kustom Lead III SC, it's a 2x12, and it doesn't have a tube. it's almost 30 years old, but it has an amazing tone. on certain jacks, it crackles in and out, and when the cable that runs from the "head" (it's a combo amp) to the speakers gets bumped, sometimes it loses the connection completely. I think i just need to clean the jacks somehow, or maybe replace the speaker cable. how do i go about cleaning jacks, and where would i find the right cable?? If the problem is with the jacks, either: 1) They are completely bad and need replaced... or 2) The connection to them is going bad and simply needs resoldered (most likely if this is the case) If the problem is with the cables, then either: 1) The connection is bad just inside the plug. Most instrument/speaker cables have plugs that can be unscrewed. Check for anything obviously wrong or even stray frayed wire. This can be resoldered. (most likely if this is the case) 2) The cable has a broken connection somewhere inbetween the plug; buy a new one at your local music store. Some troubleshooting to find where the problem lies would help a lot. Try plugging the cable in one way and seeing if it 'crackles'; then reverse the cable and try again. If it happens both times, then it has something to do with the jack. If it only happened once, its most likely the cable. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
