I don't think a whole lot of soundcards have midi anymore, at least not ones that come with computers. My old Soundblaster had the combination joystick/midi port - you would need to buy a cable from a computer store, one end plugs into the port, the other has 2 plugs, midi in and midi out. Its a common cable. My Emu 404 has midi in & out on the breakout cable. Answer: you should be able to run the SPDIF output into your computer with no problem, if your soundcard doesnt have a SPDIF input i think you might be able to buy a little wire that converts the type of plug to the one you need. i have a soundcard with SPDIF inputs they are really cheap like 20$ or so. i think the quality is the best when you use the SPDIF output. The SPDIF is for audio input, what he's asking is how to interface the Genny to the computer to be able to use the Gen Edit software (to edit/save patches, etc.) The Genny can only communicate with a computer via midi commands. Answer: oh, ive never messed with the GenEdit. is it worth spending any time on? found a lot of really cool presets off digitechs website yesterday, i was really suprised. It facilitates creating yer patches, experimenting, etc., and lets you save them in case your unit conks out or loses memory. There are some parameters that are not accessible thru the Genny, only thru GenEdit. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
