Starting Pedal?

Question:
What, in your opinion, would be a good pedal to start out with. I don't have any pedals what-so-ever. I have a DigiTech RP 100.
Suits me fine but i would like to "upgrade" my accessories.
I have a light blue Fender Stratocaster, had for about 1 1/2 years.
It's pretty sweet!
But what kind of pedal should i start out with.
Answer:
I'd sugest a overdrive pedal. Or a delay.
Answer:
what equipment do you have that you already use? (guitar(s), amp(s), any other effects..etc)
Answer:
Overdrive would be good or just a "distortion" i like ibanez and dunlop products while others swear to boss... but you can't go wrong with the ibanez tubescreamer just ask all the artists on this page http://guitargeek.com/gearview/28/
Answer:
If your amp's drive isn't very good, I would get a better amp or a nice overdrive pedal. If your drive is already taken care of, you can go all sorts of places with a delay and your overdrive (that's my setup).

Hi There,
There are pedals galore out there, but before you throw down any cash you should really know what you want to sound like first.
I am thinking distortion is what you are asking for so I'll go from there.
I have tried every distortion possible. Each one is a different flavor.
Since you have a "Strat" I am thinking you wanna go with a more classic/hard rock to bluesey sound.
You have to keep in mind that you may be looking for a sound the pedal produces but your amp destroys. If this is the case, you may just keep spending cash needlessly and never reach your goal.
I bet your amp has at least 3-band EQ. I am assuming passive EQ as well. If so, turn the Crank the high and the bass, and set the mid in the middle. This is a good starting point so your pedal tone can come through. Also if you have a Presence knob crank it as well. Drop any reverb to about 1/4 or less. Use only the clean channel too.
OK, if you want a pedal that has good tone, EQ, and costs very little, pick up the Digitech Hot Head Distortion. It cost about $40 and this thing can do classic rock, overdrive, and hard-rock. It has big bottm end and can also be used as a "clean boost". It is all analog, and won't color your guitar tone too heavy unless you make it. I have used it as an overdrive to saturate tube amps with killer tone results.
Well, I hope I have helped another servant of our Awesome God. Let His Light Shine Through His Word!!

I would agree with the majority as well and say that you should go for an overdrive pedal as your first. Some really good selections are fulltone fulldrive 2, ibanez ts9 (tubescreamer), proco rat, boss bd-2. Check those out and more at musicians friend.com. THey have tons of soundclips for you to listen to.

i'd definitley reccomend the FD 2. i'm running into a fender amp to start with so i've got only mild to moderate crunch but add that thing in there and whew can i get some sweet tones and sustain from those things. course it can break the bank seemingly but i got one used and it's built like a tank. lol. well worth what i spent on it.
but yea unless you've got a nice tube amp or a SS with excellent distortion/OD i'd go that direction.
