Crybaby = harsh?
Question: I'm going to ask for a wah pedal for my birthday. I think around $100 would be good. I'm liking both the Vox V847 and the Crybaby 535Q. The Crybaby is more versitile. The Vox looks cooler, and everyone has a Crybaby anyway. I'm acutally leaning Vox mostly because I've been hearing that Crybabys can sound quite harsh. I'm worried that I won't be satisfied with the rangle of the Vox though, and may wish I had the 535Q's versatility. Help? -Nick Answer: Just to let you know, I hate harsh sounds.... I had to have my tele's bridge p'up replaced just cause it drives me nuts.... The 535Q is the way to go, you can adjust its range so you'll be fine. I just have a plain Jane Crybaby, paid $60 for it and I am completely happy with it... One side note; put your crybaby BEFORE your distortion and also before anything that has a buffer (read: is not true bypass) then eventually when the pot goes on the pedal you can get the Roger Mayer upgrade for it.... Anyway, I don't care too much for the VOX sound (for Wah's, I'd love an AC-30) Play both of them at a store i guess, but I'd suggest the Crybaby Answer: harsh? http://guitargeek.com/gearview/127/ Answer: Originally Posted by AXguitar harsh? http://guitargeek.com/gearview/127/ Yeah, harsh. I don't understand the link by the way... -Nick Answer: "Harsh" is subjective. Obviously, since the person who called a Tele's bridge pup "harsh", others would call "twangy" or "clear". While one person would call something "thick" or "heavy", another would call it "muddy". In other words, go try one for yourself. Then see if you think it's "harsh". Trying one indeed would be the best thing to do. It's quite inconvinient, however, and I was hoping to not have to, but maybe I will. If it helps, I'm one of the people that would call a tele bridge position "harsh". -Nick Answer: I love my crybaby wah. I have never had a harsh sound out of it ever. My favorite thing to do is leave it in one position to get a nasal sounding voice while im doing leads. Answer: go to musicians friend, you can listen to sound clips... but the crybaby is the classic and it's affordable as well... Not a very good idea when wanting to get a realistic idea of what something sounds like. Not only is it a recording, but you have no clue what guitar and amp they used and also what tweaking they did with the recording. I thought it sounded alright, but as guitarfreak said, who knows what amp / guitar settings they were using? -Nick Answer: exactly which is why i need to try one myself. ideally i'll take my guitar in and see how it responds. the sound clips didnt quite use it how i'd like anyway so i'd have to do some work to see if it'd do what i wanted ot do. Answer: Don't rule out Morley, they've got some really nice ones I like my Morley better than any Crybaby I've played/heard So yeah, try them all out definately and its all based on what you will use it for and your taste in sound Answer: Originally Posted by SwitchfootRulz! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! -Nick Answer: Crap! My crybaby just shorted out on me tonight. I've had it forever. I think that the problem may be that I got Ice cream in iside of it one night. (don't ask) Oh well it served me almost 7 years. I'll fix it but I will probably buy the new zakk wylde signature crybaby. Answer: Originally Posted by Only Alive Good idea. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! -Nick I have a Morley Bad Horsie 2 (and since you've been a regular of my recording critique threads, you know what it sounds like). I really like it, and its pretty versatile. I suggest you go to your local shop and try em out. Play what you like the best. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
