Musicians Friend... (Question)
Question: Is the list price usually trust worthy? Every time I open up the magazine it wowes me with it's huge discounts. Is it really selling as cheap as it looks? Or does it just make it look that way? Answer: Originally Posted by natedawg5280 Is the list price usually trust worthy? Every time I open up the magazine it wowes me with it's huge discounts. It's just there to make you think the item is worth more than it is. For example the "list" for the Boss Ds-1 pedal is 90 bucks, but no one sells it for over 40. -Nick Answer: Ok, I was going to say, they would have been unbelievably cheap. And they actually get business? -Nick Answer: Originally Posted by Only Alive Seriously? Wow. I just now found out about that, he just wanted a dist. pedal and didnt look around (btw, the store does match prices if you bring in the magazine ) Answer: there's a store around here (Whittaker's in Chula Vista) that would sell at list as well unless you haggled them down. I don't know if they're still like that because they lost my business a long time ago. I only run in there once or twice a year to mess around with their stuff. List prices are basically Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices...very few places will sell at this price, and I don't know of any chain music stores that do. Answer: Local music stores operate on the likelihood that the average customer is ignorant about online stores and only comes in because they need or want something and they want it right then. Rarely will you find a local store that isn't much more expensive than Musician's Friend. The main reason is volume and that they can't get it as cheap as MF because they don't sell as much. The other reason is just like I said, they hope you're dumb about online prices so they can make more of a profit. There's a store around here that actually marks all of their products with the list price and then act like they're doing you some sort of huge favor when they knock 10 percent off that price. If you mention that it's X price in MF they'll come down but not to MF's price and say "Oh, but we're just accounting for the shipping charge, too, because that would be added to your price if you bought it there". Full of crap. Even MF and Guitar Center are making HUGE profits. I had a $550 Ovation acoustic/electric that I wanted to trade for a Big Baby Taylor and they offered me $150 for it at Guitar Center. I told them I was hoping for more like $200-$250 and the guy was like "Well we pay that much for them new, so we could never give you that much"...and they sell them for $550! That's more than 100% mark-up! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
