Do you mean what do they sound like or what do they DO as in what do they do to the signal to get the sound? If it's about the sound, the easiest way to figure this out is to listen to sound samples. If you're looking for how they work, you can go here http://www.harmony-central.com/Effec...explained.html for relatively non technical (but accurate) descriptions of several common effects... if you're good a physics/math these should at least make sense to you.... also includes sound samples.
