Question about amps...
Question: is it possible to play a bass guitar through a regular guitar amp? would it do any damage to the amp? Answer: It's possible, but not reccomended. You could blow speakers, and that's generally a bad thing. Plus you'll lose A LOT of the fundamental bass frequencies... Simply because a guitar amp isn't made for the 35-60 hz range where the low notes on a bass reside. You'll still hear the note, but you won't hear the BASSY part of the note. So in short, yes, but I strongly reccomend getting a bass amp. Answer: yeah i'm going to get a bass amp soon, but i kinda need the money first. thanks for the advice. Answer: Yeah what Visirale said, playing bass through a guitar amp is not reccomended. However, it's perfectly safe to play a guitar through a bass amp. However, the speaker can handle over 100W of power. Don't play it through a small practice amp or something of the sort, because you will likely blow something, be it the speaker or the amp. Many practice amp speakers can't even handle 20 watts. Again, though, you'll be losing a lot of bass frequencies that guitar amps don't work with. It's reccomended to get a bass amp. It just sounds better. Answer: i know, i'm going to get a bass amp, just not at the same time that i buy my bass. and i think i'm going to wait until i get a bass amp before i plug in. i love my Marshall too much Answer: Originally Posted by Joe_I_Am i know, i'm going to get a bass amp, just not at the same time that i buy my bass. and i think i'm going to wait until i get a bass amp before i plug in. i love my Marshall too much What model? I don't see any real danger in plugging a bass into a 50+ watt guitar combo. Just the smaller amps that come with crappy low powered speakers. Generally, if the bass is distorting the clean channel, don't do it. Start with the volume all the way down on the bass and the volume low on the amp, and turn the volumes up, starting with the bass, until you're at a good level. If you hear any unwanted distortion while turning up, it's probably not a good idea to turn up any further. EDIT: I added a clip of how my bass sounds thru my Marshall Valvestate combo. The overdriven sound of the bass in this instance was intentional. Doesn't sound all too bad, IMO. Sure sounds better then those crappy 10 and 15 watt bass practice combos that can't cut through anything... (This is a clip of a cover I did to Thursday's "Paris In Flames", just in case you were wondering...) I am looking at a "Pignose G40V 40-Watt All-Tube Amplifier" (http://www.zzounds.com/item--PIGG40V). Any suggestions on if I should buy it? Well, for starters, you may not get much reply here because it needs to be in it's own thread, which I'll do for ya. Case Answer: ive played guitar threw a bass amp. No need to put it in it's own thread - already done. And I deleted my post in this thread. Thanks for the advice!
