Vox Custom Classics
Question: I have GOT to get myself one of these bad boys. There's a nice review in the new MF magazine too. They look pretty cool to me... what say you? -Nick Answer: I say... Sometime in the near future I must try one of these out. Answer: Originally Posted by Only Alive I have GOT to get myself one of these bad boys. There's a nice review in the new MF magazine too. Maybe in a few years... It looks like they have tons of cool features. If you get the MF magazine, check out the review. Very interesting. -Nick Answer: Well, to be the devil's advocate for a second, anything MF reviews is gonna be the most amazing thing ever, because they want you to buy it. Same with guitar magazines that get paid to review and advertise products.... With that being said, I am still very interested in these. I was originally planning on getting one, but I think I may go with an Orange AD30TC, but still not positive. The Orange is more versatile, but an AC30 is hard to pass up. And that price is really good for a new AC30. Used British reissues go for $1200+. I didn't mean read the review because of it's opinion - read it because it lists the features in much more detail, and tells you about things like the modern/vintage switch, and things. I really want to play one of these things. -Nick Answer: I want to play one too. Answer: I got to try the 2x12" version (the one with out the Vox Blues) today. Short version: I LOVE this amp. Longer version: Layout is simple and has some very nice features. Two channels, which can be blended together. Reverb with a tone control, and an option to drive the reverb harder (for a longer dwell). Master volume and presence cut. Very nice Tremolo, with the Vox sound (more "on/off" than a Fender's "pulse") The normal/brilliant channel is nice, one knob, just the way I like things. The Top Boost channel is also nice, it has bass and treble controls (don't remember if they are cut only or not). I tried probably ten different guitars through it, and it reacted diffferently to each one. With a tele, I was able to get everything from a nice country tone (like Brad Paisely, who uses AC30 style amps), to a great overdriven crunchy alt-rock sound with the rear pickup; to a warm, very rootsy sound with the neck pickup. With a P90 equiped guitar, the sounds just got hotter. Answer: Originally Posted by LWatford I got to try the 2x12" version (the one with out the Vox Blues) today. Short version: I LOVE this amp. I was wondering if you had, and which one you prefer (not to choose for me obviously, just wondering what you thought). I'm trying to decide between the two, although if I work at Guitar Center this summer, I may just go with the AC30 since I'll have a pretty sweet discount. I have never even seen an Orange amp in person. I'd love to hear one, since I've heard so much about them. Price-wise, the Vox is just amazing. I could have taken the one I played home for a little over $1000 out the door. Answer: I just tried one for about 10 minutes. I think it was the same one Lee tried. It was AMAZING. It's out of my price range, unfortunately, and I'm very happy with my Hot Rod Deluxe. But even so...! -Nick Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
