i want tube---small tube amps
Question: any suggestions. i dont have a lot of money right now. i want a tube amp, preferably one that has great cleans, good for bluesy stuff. ideally i'd go for a fender hot rod deluxe, or '65 reverb, or even the blues jr. but all those are too loud and too much. even 15 watts tube is too much. i want a small practice amp, tha'tll be relatively cheap. any suggestions? i dont want to get an attenuator for the mere fact that if i get a bigger amp it'll cost more money, and i don't have the money. so--anyone? Answer: fender champ 6W $250-$300 Carvin Vintage 16 16/5W operation (switchable) $400 Answer: Epiphone galixies are nice Answer: I read that Brad Avery from Third Day is using an Epiphone Galaxie 25. It must sound decent because he has really good tone. I read a lot of reviews on it, but I hear that it has a stability issue. Answer: I've heard alot of good things about the Peavy Classic 30. It's a 30w all-tube amp and supposably the best for your money. Another option is the Vox AD15 or 30. They aren't all-tube amps, they're modelling amps. They do, however, have one tube in them. I bought the AD30VT and I love it. Answer: Originally Posted by guitarfreak217 I read that Brad Avery from Third Day is using an Epiphone Galaxie 25. Yeah, but he uses like ten of those suckers, and who knows what he's got in them. I've heard about a lot of quality problems with them as well. And I've heard from several people that they are very noisy. Answer: Peavey Classic 30 is indeed a good small tube amp. May be a little more than you want to spend. There was also at one time a Classic 20. Don't know if it's still in production, but they occasionally show up on ebay. Answer: if 15watts is too much, how is 30 watts going to be better? Answer: Heh...there's always the ZVex NanoAmp! .5 watts of tube power...don't know if the cleans would be clean enough for you. And it's pretty expensive. IMO, its better to find something in your price range that you like; then weigh the pros and cons. too many people make a decision simply off of the wattage it has. too much, too little. there won't be a huge amount of difference between a 15w and 30w amp (except maybe size and weight). and honestly, 5 watts is too loud without an attentuator. find some options first, then pick between them. There is 1 difference. Money. Problem: More wattage=More $$ Me=Not have much $$ Solution: Less Wattage=Less $$ Me=Not spend much money. Answer: Originally Posted by pyoo323 There is 1 difference. Answer: I find that 15 watts behaves quite ideally. My Blues Junior breaks up a little late for my liking, but I don't think you'll really be unhappy with 15 watts maximum.
