AMps for acoustic
Question: what kind of amp should i get for a classical acoustic guitar Answer: Originally Posted by supertramp16 what kind of amp should i get for a classical acoustic guitar firstly wat guitar do you have? for classical guitar i prefer to mic it instead of running through an amp Answer: i got a yamaha c-370, musik indonesia Answer: I don't own one, but i've played through a SWR blonde series (not sure if it was california or strawberry) and it was a very good sounding amp. The only other acoustic amp i've used was something by fender. Normally a love fender amps, but in this case, the SWR sounded much better to me. Sorry i don't know the model name of the fender. But the SWRs are good amps. They both have a very wide frequency response range. I'm sure there's other stuff out there that's just as good (and some that's better), but you definately ought to check those out if can. btw, you might have better luck with this in the amp forum. A mod will probably move it when they see it. Answer: i played through an SWR Strawberry Blonde and didnt' really like it too much...but i also didn't try to EQ it or even know anything about it. i did play through a Trace Elliot once and loved it. Answer: if you can find one Laney makes a decent acoustic amp. and while i havenet tried it yet i saw that Bose has come out with an acoustic amp. saw it ag gc while trying out a couple stomp boxes... Answer: marshall? Answer: Originally Posted by supertramp16 marshall? I didn't know they made an acoustic amp. That's the important thing is that you get an amp designed for acoustics. electric guitar amps are specifically designed so that both the preamp and the speakers color you sound in ways that you wouldn't want on acoustic. the prefered means of amplifying probably acoustics goes something like this, in descending order: Mic & PA, pickup & PA, acoustic amp, keyboard amp, bass amp, computer speakers, car stereo, cell phone, guitar amp. Ok, maybe not quite that bad, but the point is, an acoustic going through a marshall amp for electrics will not sound anything like an acoustic (although you might like this sound). Answer: actually Marshall does make an acoustic amp...and I hear that for the price range it's pretty decent. It's actually very very good for the price. Answer: I've played through a Marshall acoustic amp. My mentor and the church's worship pastor owns one and uses it weekly. I like it. I have also played through that SWR Strawberry Blonde. I like it. Answer: I think that both of the Marshall acoustic amps, Stink! Marshall shouldn't be making acoustic amps... The best, and most natural I have ever heard has got to be Ultrasound. They are made in the USA, and are THE most natural sounding acoustic amps I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Most Acoustic amps sound very nasaly. These sound just like your guitar, only louder. Check them out. They are rather inexpensive. AER was quite big here in Sweden (They sound really good too). I've showed a number of shops that were convinced that AER was the best, and they died when they heard Ultrasound. Check them out at www.ultrasoundamps.com B-Band pickups uses Ultrasound at the NAMM show and AER at the Frankfurt Messe. They say that they always sound best at the NAMM show! (Ultrasound has never been to the European trade shows before!) Answer: First off I don't play classical. But, when I was shopping for an acoustic amp I compared a Marshall, a Peavey, a Laney and a Crate and (don't laugh) picked the Crate CA125. I didn't really expect much from it based on some of their electric amps I've heard, but this one is really clean. I played the same guitar through the Marshall & the Crate, and did the same with the Laney & the Crate, and picked the Crate both times. I didn't actually compare the Peavey side-by-side to any of them, but I just wasn't overly impressed with it by itself. Keep in mind all this was about 4 years or so ago, and I know things constantly change. Crate now has some lower-watt models that I have never tried or heard. I'm still using the Crate every Sunday. Answer: I actually decided to use a Boss GT3 pedal and go straight through the PA. I can change sound and the price is right! I got minr on ebay for 75 buks. I play a wide body Takamine. Answer: i tried a marshall acoustic amp and was very surprised how good it sounded, but i was playing a taylor 814 Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
