Complaints about "anyone not want their effects?"
Question: I don't want to seem rude....but this post is very inappropriate. If you don't have the money at the moment to pay for an effect then don't be asking for handouts. Everyone on these boards has taken the discipline to save up money and buy the effects they want (whether used or new). There are lots of people in the same situation as you....college with/without loans and I beleive that some people on these boards may have even less money than you do. Why should someone who works a part time job while at school be stuck with an $20 Arion while you get handed a high end boss pedal? I understand that you're just putting the questions out there, but you need to put in the work to get what you want and not have everything handed out to you. I mean, look at the effects that you listed out. The Boss tuner for example costs $75-$80 even used on Ebay. The delay...at least 60 bucks....let alone a tap tempo would be upwards to 100 bucks. How can you have the audacity to ask someone to hand that out to you for absolutely nothing? Plus, if you're able to go to college then you have more money than a majority of the population in the U.S. or even the world for that matter. I read somewhere that less than 10% of the US population even have the priviledge of attending college. You should feel blessed about that one alone. I'm not your parent, but someone on these boards should have the courage to tell you what the real world is like. There's always the grace of God, but you still need to know that hard work and discipline are essential personal characteristics. If someone wants to hand out a free pedal to you, then that's their business. I'm not telling anyone to donate/not donate pedals to you. I'm just expressing my own opinion on this matter. After all, you did post this on a public forum so public opinions are invited. I am also not here to offend...just offering constructive criticism. Answer: Really, I didn't find anything really terribly inappropriate about the post either. He's not asking for donations or anything really, just if, on the off-chance someone has something that they wouldn't mind just giving away, then he wouldn't mind taking it. I do think this is more suited to the Classifieds, though. Answer: Anathema...you have got some issues to deal with my man or woman (I don't have any way of knowing your gender). Do you have a problem with me personally? Because that post was not directed toward you...in no place did I mention your name. You seem to have some difficulty dealing with people not thinking the same way you do. Instead of respecting people opinions (constructively construed, of course) and then expressing your own, you decide that it's necessary to directly offend people with inappropriate words. e.g. "what a jerk." Using this type of language not only is designed to hurt people, but damages your own credibility as well. If you want to be respected as someone who can intelligently and tactfully express their thoughts, then you need to behave accordingly. Even though your identity is anonymous on this forum, your name on this forum will carry that reputation throughout. It doesn't bother me one bit that you're donating pedals or gear to him....so the spite you create has no one to affect but yourself. I actually applaud you for being so kind...and I'm sure that paat appreciates it. But let it be for the sake of paat that you donated the gear, not for an attempt to offend me. I know I was in a very similar situation and I have learned valuable lessons in working, saving, and purchasing each piece of gear I have on my pedalboard. I'm just speaking out for those who may think this is unfair to be handed out expensive gear. Im in college, out of debt, no scholarships, and lived on 8000 dollars this year. Please, please do not be so moronic. I am way below the poverty line, and have lived my life that way, you are just assuming what you do not know and jumping down a guys throat for being something he probably is not. Yes I have equipment, no I don't want anymore, but a lot of it was through generosity (or stupid pawn shop owners who didn't know what they had) of others. If someone chooses to give Paat something, it is their choice. If you choose not to, that is your choice as well, but if he gets a nice pedal, rejoice in his good fortune, do not begrudge him. Answer: I respect all opinions....except those that have insulting comments. First Anathema and now a Super Moderator? Aren't there rules of conduct in these forums? How can someone with the duty of ensuring people act civil to each other be using insulting words? Please, please do not be so moronic. And I have a right to express my views. But never did I use such language. Everyone has a right and there's nothing wrong with disagreeing. Do you see me taking offense for other posts that went against me with appropriate language? No. Paat, I'm sorry if you took offense by being subjected to American statistics. But in actuality, being able to go to college is still a great, great priviledge worldwide as I have mentioned already. And being called to ministry is also a great opportunity. I have nothing against that. However, if were able to save for amps and 2 guitars, then you should be able to save up for the gear that you want. And also Bill, didn't I just praise Anathema for offering the pedal to Paat? You need to read a little closer before posting such a post. I have nothing against people making their own decisions....it's a principle that I've been supporting in all my posts. I'm not against giving. Just when I saw Paat's post with all the high quality of gear he was requesting...I couldn't agree with it. Thanks for reading everyone! Answer: This is the best classified post I've ever read. I wish I had a pedal to throw into the mix for grins. How about some acoustic strings? ha. Answer: i'll take a shot at this too :) anybody who has something.....i'll take it :) Answer: I'm gonna start my own "Give me Gear for Free" Ministry. See, you send me your gear, and I give you a tax ID to write it off. Nice, eh? I'd like a few Taylors... but only special editions... none of this low-rent $2000 run-of-the-mill Taylor junk for me. If you have effects you don't need, I have a better idea than sending them to Canada... which happens to have a free healthcare system the sponge up there can suckle off of, and basically free tuition in many cases... Sell the pedals on Ebay and give the proceeds to the poor... you know for things like... ummm... maybe... FOOD AND CLOTHING. THAT is an act of worship. Sending stuff for free to Bob and/or Doug up there IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT. GET A JOB. BTW... regarding your "great offense" to being included in American statistics, I take "great offense" at shouldering the defense burden for Canada for the last... oh... 50 years or so...
