Brittish amps

Question:
What do ya think?
Answer:
which ones?
I mean...
Marshall MG30 - horrible
Vox AC30 - just great!
Answer:
Ya, depends on the manufacturer and the model.
Answer:
Your right. I was primarly thinking about orange amps.
Answer:
Orange are supposed to be great. I'm more of a Vox man, myself, but if I get to try out my buddy's Orange, that might change.
Answer:
hmm... of all the companies that i'm familiar with... (considering only their tube amps), i'd say they are, for the most part, awesome.

Answer:
British amps = teh uber bossness. Especially Vox.

Answer:
I'm big on certain vintage Vox gear, not quite as big on Orange, and big on certain Marshall gear. Some other Vox and Marshall gear I'd avoid like the plague, though.

Answer:
Do orange amps sound good even if they are SS ?
Answer:
Marshall is in my opinion the prototypical "British" amp...
And the early ones were basically Fender Bassmans...
So, maybe we should change the title to:
Fender, which copy of their amp do you like best?

Half true. While the early ones were inspired by fender bassmans, the JTM-45 that was released in 1965 marked the turning point from mellow fender-like tone to the distinctive, bright "crunchy" sounds of the later marshalls.
Safe to say, Marshalls havnt sounded like Fenders for 40 years... Your statement is quite pompous.
And while I would never own a fender amp, I would gladly own a great Marshall, Vox or Orange..
Answer:
It depends. There are good and bad examples just like everything else. I'd love an AC30 or a JTM45. They are such a broad range of amps, from the Class A Voxes to the old style Marshalls and Laneys to all the modern stuff.

The Bassman, JTM45, and the Pelxi's were all based on the same Western Electric circuit. Do they sound the same? Not quite. That's one of the most interesting things to me...how so many amps could be based of the same two circuits (Western Electric and GE I think) and yet sound so different (and how little changes made big differences).
Answer:
best British amp? my Fender Princeton Reverb II.
oh yes... its naturalisation papers came through a couple of years ago.
best wishes
