digitech multi-effects

Question:
anyone had experience with them? i want some comments thanks
Answer:
I used to own an RP7. I didn't like it very much. It sounded way too digital, and it was basically worthless live, because when changing settings, there was about a 1/2 second delay, it always sounded funny and threw me for a loop I just couldn't get used to that. However, that is an older model, so I don't know how much they've improved today.
Answer:
i have a digitech RP200. i love it. the range of sounds you can get from it is really cool. its definitely worth the money, since its the price of about 2-3 single effects pedals. hope this helps.
Answer:
I think all multi effects units have a little bit of a hitch when changing patches, and it is disconcerting. I have the RP2000, it has that too, I don't think its as bad as a 1/2 second. The way I use mine, I don't switch patches within a song. The RP2000 has the ability to turn individual effects on or off within each patch, which does not have that delay issue. I have different generic patches set up for different delay times, different effects, etc., and then I can pull up the effect when needed. Kinda like having presets on individual pedals, and then being able to pull up different combinations of these presets. Very performance-friendly, as opposed to individual effects. I have also set up a couple patches for specfic tunes in the past, that I thought required specific settings for various effects that would be used in different passages.
As far as the quality of the effects, Digitech stuff has a rep for having good sounding effects for the most part; for what I use it for, I'm satisfied. The distortions are amp models that you can set the gain, level, speaker type, etc. There are a couple in there that sound good, of course make sure you turn off the speaker emulation for use with an amp, and don't feed a distorted amp model into a distorted amp, lest it sound as bad as some reviewers claim. Digitech RP series amp models have a pretty good rep and have gotten good reviews for sounding good driving an amp.
I think multi-FX units in general get a bad rep because of the factory presets - they are generally too exaggerated for real world use. I would also guess part of this bad rep comes from users who do not take the time to learn about effects, and program their own patches effectively. Mix ratio too high, chorus and flangers set too deep, distortion and compression set too high, too many repeats on the delays, etc, etc. - all that stuff that will cause the guitar to get lost in a live mix. I believe they do this because of the demographic they are marketing these to, young amateur players; they want to impress the potential buyer in the music store. If you take the time to program your own presets from the ground up after having learned what the parameters do, using much lower mix ratios, and more subtle effects, I think think the Digitechs are a great value.

Answer:
Eh, I just tried the RP200a, and I didn't really like it. Most of the patches are distortion (at least the pre-set ones), and it sounds kinda fakey to me. My guitar's tone and sound were toally lost in the mix.

Answer:
I rest my case.
Answer:
I think mine was just older technology. They've changed drastically since that model was made. It was the unit that had a tube in it supposedly to give it tube tone, but that was a joke I really think it comes down to if you like it or not and for me, I didn't like it, so I did something different Although, that will probably change over time just like pretty much everything else does to some degree.
Answer:
Our lead singer uses a digiteck multi pedal D/Ied right into the mix and has some great sounds out of it.
My brother and bassist just got one for his bass that has a chromatic tunner in it plus some really cool funky effects in it.
Actually I think they are worth the money, just as tom said, learn to utilze them.

I've heard you can use the top surface of those tubed Digi's to make pancakes, they get so hot.
I came close to buying one, and then ended up getting the RP2000 instead - smaller, etc. plus it had the modelling which was a new technology when I bought it; I was intending on using that for casual home recording.
Answer:
i have the RP 300. i love it. like Major Tom said, the presets aren't too great. there's a couple on there that work pretty good. but most are overexagerated. like the phaser is too fast, etc.
but i learned how to mess w/ the settings, cause i didn't have the money to get anything else at the time, so i just figured i'd learn how to work everything really well. the only thing i haven't figured out is the phaser, it never sounds the way i want it to. seems like it stops phasing down halfway and goes back up, but then goes too far up. hard to explain, but that's the best i can do.

my favorite effect is the flanger. sounds soooo good clean.

anyway, i'd recomend digitech multi-fx.
Answer:
Ok thanks a lot for the comments
btw anyone had experience with their GNX-4

They have an excellent tremelo, unlike some other multi-FX's. I'd have to say that's my favorite. Very blackface Fenderish.

I've only had about an hour to play around with it, but it looks like it has potential. It's not plug-and-play like my Boss ME-50, so it will take me a while to figure everything out. I do like the fact that it has a built in 8-track recorder. That should be fun to play with. I doubt I'll use it at church, since I'm planning on upgrading to individual pedals but it will be great to have around the house, especially since it was free!

ya, i agree, and i also like the rotary speaker effect, cause you can get a smoothly speeding up then slowing down effect when you use the petal to control the speed. kinda hard to explain, but its cool when you hear it.

i have an RP200, but i need to get a new powersupply. i managed to get some pretty decent tones in it, and i didn't get drowned out of the mix. i really like the tremelo, chorus, flanger, and the delay(i like digital delay). some of the distortions weren't bad either. i never used the wah that much. once i have the powersupply, i'm planning on using it for effects only. atleast until i have my pedalboard. all i need is a nice tube amp.
