Distortion Pedal
Question: Well, i almost got a distortion pedal about a month ago, but I decided not to get one. I dunno why, it just happened. well now I am wanting one again. I will buy one this time. i do not have access to a godd music store, so i would kinda like to buy one from Musicians Friend. so anyways. here we go. years playing guitar- 1 and 1/3 guitar- MIM fat strat amp- Roland micro cube music style- i like punkish stuff a lot, but i am by no means bound to one music style. I like classic rock, metal, all aspects of rock pretty much. budget- id really like to keep it under 80$. less would be much better. right now, im considering the ds-1 and some of the EHX muff family. Answer: dont get the ds-1 i bought it once and wasnt impressed at all, i mean its built all right....but theres nothing special at all about its sound. alot of people here dont like it that much Answer: The Rat ][ has a fond place in my heart. Answer: Originally Posted by Jay42 The Rat ][ has a fond place in my heart. Yeah definitely check that out. Also, the Marshall Jackhammer pedal is pretty sweet. Answer: Originally Posted by Jay42 The Rat ][ has a fond place in my heart. yes, this pedal has always caught my eye. i never really considered it due to the price, but i would be willing to save and get it. the clip on musicians friend sounded pretty good, but i have no clue what guitar and amp they were using so its hard to tell. i wish they had a clip of something not as heavy. i will have to look into it. Answer: the big muff is more of a fuzz pedal which i don't think is appropriate for your type of music, especially if you want more definition. the ds-1 is a poor excuse for a distortion pedal. you just might like the rat Answer: Originally Posted by iAMspartacus the big muff is more of a fuzz pedal which i don't think is appropriate for your type of music, especially if you want more definition. the ds-1 is a poor excuse for a distortion pedal. you just might like the rat yes, i think that one of the relient k guys uses one. it sounds pretty good. Answer: MXR distortion+ Answer: Never mind I forgot how much it is. Answer: For "punk-ish" style music, it seems like you'd be playing alot of rhythm vs. solos. A fuzz-style pedal such as the Big Muff would be a very very bad choice there. VERY bad choice for rhythm. Sort of the same with the MXR D+. Whereas the name very specifically implies "distortion", it's much more of a fuzz pedal. Not that that's a bad thing, but just that it doesn't really come in terribly handy as a distortion pedal for rhythm - or at least not if it's your only pedal. It's in your price range, but would probably leave you lacking. Try something like that RAT perhaps. I haven't ever played one myself, but I HEAR that they're great. Or go to eBay and pick up a modified Boss DS-1. Forget buying a stock one. They seriously stink. Really. I hear absolutely nothing but great remarks about modified ones though (www.robertkeeley.com, www.analogman.com, www.indyguitarist.com, etc.). Answer: The Digitech Grunge pedal.
