The setup im considering for church playing.
Question: So, ive just started playing off an on at my church, and my current amp was very dissatisfying as far as its sound went once I put it in that situation. So, what do yall think about this set up- An Epiphone Valve Junior, and infront of that i'd place an EQ, possibly a distortion pedal, a wah, and a noise suppressor. Edit: Its not an extravagantly big, or "in the way" set up, but I think it would sound nice. Im just not totaly sure. Answer: it looks like a good setup. definitely play one of those Epiphones first. i've heard the amps themselves tend to be a little noisy. Answer: Yeah, good setup if it's suited to ya. Mic it. Answer: read lots of bad reviews about the new epiphone amps being really noisy. why not spend a little more and get the epiphone tube amp i think its the galaxy series. if your playing lead, ebow's come in really handy with church stuff. Answer: As for the noise issue, I believe I read that Epiphone found the problem in the design that was causing that and has fixed it on all outgoing amps. You might check me on that though. As for the setup itself, sounds like a great one! Though I would probably switch out one of the pedals (wah maybe) for delay, as I find it to be much more useful in a church setting. I don't wonder if a nice overdrive may be better suited than a distortion. I suppose it depends on what dist. you were thinking of. My church setup is: Seymour Duncan P'up Booster > Crybaby 535Q > Echo Park > Hot Rod Deluxe. It's a similar setup to yours and suits me very well. I can't think of anything else that I would really use. -Nick Answer: Originally Posted by Only Alive Give the Line 6 Echo Park a try. Brilliant pedal. Overall, that's a very sweet setup. But yeah, a plain metal distortion pedal would be to extreme, I just need some warmth (and for more intense moments a little bit of a heavier edge) in the sound. Answer: Well, if you have the extra 140$, go for the Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde. OD and Distortion in one. I own one and it is well worth the money. Only thing I wish it had was a little more bass in the OD part, and the newer incarnation of the pedal (red version) has a bass boost. Answer: sweet. Sounds kool, the only thing is. That pedal cost more then the amp Im gonna buy, lol. Actualy, ive decided how im gonna put this rig together. 1: I have to have the amp. Infact, I might go to guitar center saturday to test a few out. 2: I will need the eq pedal next. 3: The optional effect (which ever I happen to decide upon). 4: The OD. Thats the order of importance, and thats the order Im gonna buy em in (since ill have to buy one at a time, cause i cant afford a whole new amp/effects rig at once). Answer: for your optional effect, I would go delay. Answer: That seems to be the consensus around here. So, the next time im at GC ill check out delays, and the amp. Oh, a review I read about the amp did say that the noise problem was fixed. And also that he changed the tubes on it out for some better ones. Answer: If you do lots of solos and acoustic parts with an electric, I'd go with a compressor for the optional effect, but it's really up to you. Answer: Im a rackmount guy, so my delay choices won't help you out much. I keep hearing good stuff about the line 6 echo park. I had considered a compressor at one point, but im not a solo'ing type guitarist. And our WL wants me to keep a fairly fast, and steady rythym, so i dont really need a ton of sustain or anything, just something to add flavor with. Yeah, rackmount sounds like it'd save some floor room, but I doubt ill ever have so much gear that buying rackmount geart (plus the racks for it) would be necessary.
