Cheap guitar pedal

Question:
I'm going to be looking at guitar effect pedals, does anyone have a good one that is within a reasonable price range?
Answer:
Boss DS-1
Answer:
Well, first it would depend on what type of effect you're looking for and what sound it is that you need. Also, what amp and guitar do you have. There are also many good threads on this in the Effects forum.
Answer:
Yes, this should be in the effects forum. Please check that before posting.
As for your question...it depends. Now, I have no idea how long you have been playing, so I will just go on what I see. I get the impression that you haven't been playing for too long. If this is the case, I would recommend NOT buying any pedal. My firm belief is that one should gain at least a solid understanding of guitar playing principals before buying any effects. Why? Because effects make it way too easy to cover up your mistakes. Especially distortion. If you don't hear yourself doing something wrong, or if it sounds decent enough wrong, then you won't fix it. This will just lead you to play badly and less accurately - something we have more then enough of in music today. Playing without effects will encourage good theory, which means cleaner playing. This is also one reason why I recommend acoustic guitars to new players as well.
If by any chance you HAVE been playing for a while, I think that a great pedal to go for would be either a Boss Chorus or a wah. You likely already have distortion on your amp most likely, so you don't need more of that.

If you are looking for a multi effects pedal to get a feel for effects there are several cheap ones you could think about. Digitech makes a cheap one as does Zoom. If you are thinking cheap individual pedals then Arion makes some of the cheapest pedals around. I have a couple of them myself. One of them takes a strong stomp to shut off and on but both have been working fine for six months now. Here is a link to get you headed in the right direction. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...S%20PEDAL&d=tp
Answer:
re-musiciansfreind-search for 'Arion'.....
and especially in the clearance section.
Answer:
Arion pedals are crap. No offense, but they really aren't well made. Boss is popular, but they are kind of pricey. Digitech makes some nice pedals, or you could also look at used pedals. It all depends on what you want.

just to second what p-man said...learn to play...effects can sound great with a good player, or horrible with a bad one...and alot of the time they just end up covering mistakes or you get so enthralled by the weird noise you're making that you lose focus.

first i would reiterate what the steve said, if your new to playing you dont' need pedals.
if not or your just gonna go buy anway, get what sounds good to you. asking about low end pedals in a place like this your gonna find at least one person to love a brand and at least one to hate a brand. its just personal taste

But my amp's distortion sounds very similar to the DS-1's...I can't tell too much of a difference, but it's there.

Digitech is decent for a "cheap pedal" company. They're not Line 6 or anything, but for 50-80 bucks they're not too bad.
Oh, and if you care about tone, don't get the DS-1. Sounds cold, harsh, and nasty.

what you say just further proves my point, you think that digitech is ok and the ds1 sounds bad. i'd take a ds1 over digitech. cause its a matter of personal opinion and taste...
Answer:
if you were to ask me, "cheap" and "guitar pedal" should never be put together
you get what you pay for and it is VERY true for guitar pedals
something else to consider is that your fingers is arugably a good %40 or more of your tone. so there is something you can definately work for.

if you were to ask me, there's no such thing as a "bad" guitar pedal...there are pedals that aren't good for certain applications, but certainly every pedal has it's purpose.
