Cheap Tuner
Question: Hey, I just need a cheap stompbox style tuner to use live between songs. Nothing fancy, just something I can step on, tweak my tuning, then step off. I don't need any alternate tunings or anything like that. I'm finding all stompbox size tuners extremely expensive. -Nick Answer: "Cheap stompbox style tuner"? Your best "cheap" one is the Fender PT-10. That's not saying much though. For the stompbox tuner, that's about the only one worth looking at. You'd get a more accurate tuner if you pick up something from Korg or Boss. Answer: Yup, as far as "cheap" goes I wouldn't go any less than the Fender, and it's around $50 I believe. Any of the stuff cheaper than that is really shoddy in quality and doesn't usually work well, if at all. For example, I own the "Son Of A Pitch" tuner they sell on Music123...don't remember what brand it is. It won't tune my bass to drop D, which is a VERY common tuning, and also produces fuzzy distortion through my amp when it's in tune mode (supposedly muted). Answer: I can testify. I,myself, have a Fender PT-10 stage tunner. Its not the best, but i think it meets your needs. Answer: The fender one sounds alright. I think if you can, you should look for a used Boss TU-2. Not too expensive, and a very accurate and easy-to-use tuner. Answer: Originally Posted by IceHawk The fender one sounds alright. I think if you can, you should look for a used Boss TU-2. Not too expensive, and a very accurate and easy-to-use tuner. The boss TU 2 is the best tuner ive seen. Id much rather have that than my fender one. Cause it shows you in LED the note your playing. Where the fender tunner, only has little dots that light up. Answer: Once I have the money and am back to a normal amp rig, I'm planning on picking up a Peterson Strobostomp tuner. But it's not cheap. I'll probably pick one up to intonate my guitar though. Answer: Ive herd alot about the storbo stomp, what does it do? Is it just a expensive tuner? Answer: You have fun with your $200 tuner and I'll still be enjoying my $80 tuner doing everything I need it to flawlessly... I failed to mention that the PT-10, as smashing guitar alluded to, is very hard to read on stage. Yes, you'll learn what notes are in what spot on the tuner in relation to the red light up dots, but you're still guessing. That tuner is 40 bucks now, but there *is* a PT-100 version now with the large LED readout of what note you're tuning. I haven't heard anything about this one, but it *looks* good...just don't know how well it works. It's hard to knock an industry standard like the TU-2 from the top, though. Answer: Wow, 8 replies overnight! Well done guys. I'll look into both the PT-10 and the Boss TU-1. I was originally thinking of the Boss, the but price tag turned me away. However, I want something that will work and that I won't need to replace soon, so I'll have a look at the PT-100 too. Any more suggestions? -Nick Answer: Originally Posted by Only Alive Wow, 8 replies overnight! Well done guys. I'll look into both the PT-10 and the Boss TU-1. Answer: Id say if you have the extra cash, id go with the boss tunner. The fender is okay. As brent meantoined, the fender is hard to read on stage, but you learn where the dots are/mean. Answer: Originally Posted by IceHawk Well its Boss TU-2 not TU-1 (possibly a problem? ) Same diff, you toad! -Nick Answer: a tu-2 shouldn't run you more than $90+tax...and from what i understand they pretty much last forever (relatively speaking). my biggest worry with my tu-2 is that it'll get stolen. Answer: Originally Posted by smashing guitar Ive herd alot about the storbo stomp, what does it do? Is it just a expensive tuner? It's a strobe tuner so it's probably one of the most accurate stompbox tuner available. It also has settings for alternate tunings including a stretch tuning that actually let's you tune a piano. And it also has the ability to use the Buzz Feiten Tuning pitches. Plus, it's a di box as well. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
