Peavey JSX
Question: Ive been looking at getting a new amp Im very interested in the JSX anyone have any thoughts, anyone got one and giggin with it?? Ive looked at the Mode Four, DSL and TSL Im not a big Mesa fan, they are great amps, they just dont suit me any help would be appreciated cheers Mick Answer: well, i havn't seen/heard/played the amp myself... and i havn't heard anyone talk about it on here. i'm kinda interested myself if anyone else has had any experiance with one. it would be useful if you listed things like what style of music you play, what guitar/s you have, a description of the sound your looking for, etc... Answer: Why aren't you a mesa fan? From the amps you listed, Mesa would be superior to any of those amps as far as tone and versatility in a rock, punk, metal spectrum. You may have played one of their blues amps that didn't suit you... anyways... what tht said. Case Answer: The JSX is versitile in a word. It does many things well that I found I like. For example it has a very bright and natural clean channel, it is very "dry" which is good becuase if you choose to add effects it doen'st colour your tone as much. The result is control, which some people need if they are tone freaks. The distortion and crunch are both very well voiced. I really like the third channel with gain all the way up and eq set at standard metal settings, it cranks really well. The price is right. If you want all out high gain that will rock your face off then I really think Mesa is the way to go, however this amp does all things quite well and can put out. Answer: The only experience I've had with the JSX is seeing about 5 of them on stage being used by the master himself. I liked how they sounded from that. That's probably not much help, though. Answer: I have a Jackson guitar dimazio pickups neck - PAF Pro bridge - Evolution stock Charvel and a couple of other guitars i gig with either 2 VS265Rs with a 4x10 and 15 as extentions cabs or a 265R with the 15 and a JCM 800 I generally use a GT5 with dunlop wah univibe delay chorus I used to play in a Youth P&W Band, playing Youth Alive and Planet Shakers stuff and some originals, and in church, we played a variety of styles, so im really after something that is versatile Ive played every Mesa they have, im fortunate my brother works in a music store and i took all my gear with me and played for almost 8 hrs on different amps. The Dual Rect was my fav out of all of them, but it just wasnt me, yes it is an amazing amp, but even after playing with it, with and without effects, it just didnt suit me, i just wasnt hearing what i was after tonewise. While i was there I recommended them to several people who came into the store looking for amps. Several people i know have them and swear by them, and i respect that and the Mesa's themselves. As the years have passed, ive used less and less gain, from the early days of maximum gain, perhaps a mesa or a 5150 would have suited me, but i find myself dialing in a whole lot less gain. My biggest influences are Satriani, SRV and Metallica and Tool, so if can imagine a cross bread between all that, thats about my sound, and im looking to improve it with a new amp. I also have to add, i liked Satchs tone, on Live in San Fran, but his tone on G3 Live is just something else, and i know its cause he is using the JSXs, a whole new level. Well the funny thing is... Look closly at the heads next time you watch it. They're not JSXs. Triple Xs instead. Interesting, no? That's why I don't like his tone on there too much. Just a hair too insane for me. When I saw him back in October, though, he was using JSXs. That was some great tone. Answer: the triple xxx cases held the prototypes of his JSX amps don't look now but musicians friend has a $799 sale on the head i think Answer: Originally Posted by iAMspartacus the triple xxx cases held the prototypes of his JSX amps Really? Still. Whatever he was using that night sounds NOTHING (well, actually that's not true. The super high gain third channel that he has on there sounds like what he had on the DVD) like the final product. Anyways, back on topic. JSX=Seems pretty versatile and sounds great. Thats what i loved bout his tone LOL Answer: Originally Posted by MJ_Avalanche Really? Still. Whatever he was using that night sounds NOTHING (well, actually that's not true. You also have to reolize that Satch uses a lot of distortion boxes...and even if you had every bit of gear that he does you still wouldn't sound like him, unless you mimic his technique and style perfectly. Aha, but he only uses all that extra gear in the studio. Live, he tries to keep it as simple as possible. Galen actually had a much more stuff on his board than Satch did. The only distortion box he had when I saw him was his DS-1. The rest of the distortion came from the 4 JSX heads that he had (1 on stage and 3 off to the side). At the most, I think he generally only uses 2 distortion boxes max. Answer: Originally Posted by 4Glory The JSX is versitile in a word. It does many things well that I found I like.
