Active Pedal

Question:
i was just wondering if i could run a passive guitar though a active ernie ball jr volume pedal
Answer:
Why wouldn't you? Most electric guitars are passive, and I have yet to see a guitar that can't be run through a pedal.

Answer:
Maybe/it depends. If I remember right, the only differnce in the active and passive versions of the EB volume pedal is the value of the pot. The active version uses a 25K pot, while the passive version uses a 250K pot.

And that is why it would be better to just use a passive volume pedal. The 25k pot is made to be used with guitars that have active pickups.
Answer:
Oh, VOLUME pedal. I should learn to read.

Answer:
Don't get the volume pedal made for active (pre-amped/buffered signal) signal unless you are going to feed it an "active" signal; that is, one that has been buffered or preamped. It will work with a passive guitar straight into it, but the 25K pot will "load down" the pickups, resulting in a weak signal with attenuated treble freq's. It will work fine with a buffering pedal (one that's not a true-bypass), or preamp in front of it They say its for active pickups, but the passive guitar>cord>buffering/preamp is the same thing.
If you are using any buffering pedals, multi FX, or preamp, my advice would be to use the "active pickup" 25K model volume and put it after any or all of that stuff - it will cut the overall volume without degrading the signal much at all. Running a passive guitar thru a 250K passive volume pedal will affect the tone - it will cut the treble freq's a bit even at full volume, and get worse as you throttle it back. It might not sound too bad with a tele or strat since they have highs to spare, but it will certainly be noticeable with humbuckers.
If yer amp has an effects loop, you could also put the 25K volume pedal in there.
