acoustic pickups
Question: hey, i have an old acoustic guild g-37 blonde, from before fender bought it out (around early 80's). i want to get a pickup for it, and i want it to sound nice. money is not too big of an option, i'm willing to go upwards to 200 for it. it's for my dad too. now when it comes to pickups, i know nothing, can somebody fill me in on good pickups, and information? i want it to sound natural, and really clean, and crisp, i'm playing for worship too, so i'm running through a p.a. any information would be great. Answer: I have a Fishman Matrix 2 pickup in my Taylor. It's quite nice and clean. I'm no expert, but i like my pickup. Answer: does that have volume controls on the guitar? Answer: No, it doesn't. Answer: You're going to have to spend a bit more than what you are willing to spend because one thing needed is a good onboard pre-amp. You don't need an onboard preamp to get good sound. A good pickup and an external preamp will work just fine. I get very good results from an LR Baggs ribbon pickup (though better pickups can be had for cheaper today, this was '97) and a SansAmp Acoustic DI (still the best IMO) preamp. I'm not a big fan of cutting square holes into guitars just so you can fiddle with your volume by hand. For folks who are control freaks, just get a volume pedal and check your EQ before the show starts. Nate Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
