muddiness...
Question: ok, i'm really happy with my new amp...cleans are awesome sounding...however my drive channel is very muddy sounding...tried backing the bass down...helped a little, but i want that bass tone back...so what can help? is this even an amp issue, like maybe it's my pickups or strings? my rig is.. carvin sx200c, with celestion seventy 80s, http://www.carvin.com/products/singl...=SX200C&CID=SX cort z22, with ernie ball power slinkies (i really hate these strings, but there still in decent shpe, will try something new when i replace them...any suggestions?) http://www.cort.com/guitars/zenox/index.html (bottom of the page) Answer: what gauge strings are they? sometimes switching to a lighter gauge will take care of it. also, what pickup are you using when you have had trouble with the sound? do you have trouble in any pickup config with your guitar? Answer: my strings are ernie ball power slinkys, http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/guit...-Ball/2220.asp i really like heavier strings, i have trouble playing lighter ones, the way i tell what string i'm on is by the thickness...and when i had light strings on it i would often get lost, or even miss the string completely. both pickups are muddy, the bridge one being better, i normally have both pickups selected. so it's muddy when in the drive channel, more so with the neck pickup than the bridge, yet the clean channel is very clear, probably could be better, but it really xopunds good. Answer: The problem is that the drive channel is supposed to have a smooth overdrive. You probably want a different kind of distortion, in with distortion pedals will greatly help you with. I've been hearing you crank the drive up to 10, trying to get a hard distortion, but you really need a distortion pedal. Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. Answer: not any more! i found my crunch tone, lol the drive is on 3 right now, ant i rarely go high than 7 now...my ear has improved! but 3 or 4 is were it's at most of the time now... Yes. But the Carvin drive channel really just sounds smooth, it's designed that way, and some people may percieve it as muddiness. A distortion pedal that fits your style of music would be best. Answer: i'm not talking it's-not-crunchy type muddy, i mean muddy...everything as blended as a milkshake...it's really not clear at all...i've heard a lot of sx200c clips, and they were all really smooth on the distortion, but clear sounding...i hope this is making sense... Answer: Check the tone controls on your guitar, or try playing with the middle or treb controls on the amp. I think you should go for a lighter gauge or string, personally. Is the muddiness a sudden development, or how is been like that all along? -Nick Answer: been there. messed with the eq a lot, can't seem to get a clear-cut sound out of it...i'm now wondering if it's the places were i've played it...all very live spaces...hmm, i'm really wanting to take it someplace else and crank it...oh and i have tried messing with the tone knob... Answer: Is it a tube amp? My HR Deluxe can sound really crappy and quite fizzy on the overdrive unless the volume is turned up a bit past bedroom level. I still need to get an attenuator... -Nick Answer: I suggest an EQ pedal Once you figure out how to really use it, it works wonders. I have a Boss GE-7 and I always have it with me when I play. Definately try one out if you can. Answer: it's a SS amp...sounds really good for one, though...however i have noticed that the drive does sound better the higher you go...sadly this amp is so loud the when i cranked it up to 2 on the dail and hit a chord i felt like i'd been hit in the chest...like when you're next to a cannon being fired...this thing move a LOT of air! anyway, i think it sounded good, my ears were kinda outa wack, so i really don't remember... Answer: How far away from your strings is your bridge pickup? You could try raising it a little. If its really low from the strings you could be losing some articulation. Answer: an eq pedal is on my list...when i have the $$$... Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
