Welcome to www.thanktoday.com !!!

My new amp, finally.

Question:
I finally have my OWN tube amp. It's a Crate Vintage 50. Very nice thing. Could be better, but I was on a pretty tight budget.
The only downsides are that it's way too loud (my dad wouldn't let me get any thing under fifty watts, oddly.), no distortion channell, and no EQ, except for a tone knob.
Answer:
pics, pics, pics please hope you like it, i am still looking for the right tube amp
Answer:
Welcome to the club. Is it a 1x12 or 2x12 or 4x10?
Answer:
I'll have pics soon, I hope.
I have no idea. I'll check...
Edit: I'm guessing you're talking abut speakers, but I can't measure those. The amp is 10 x 27.

sounds kinda like my old kalamazoo... 2 inputs, 2 knobs, 5 watts, 8" or 10" speaker. manytimes, the kalamazoo is too loud @ 5watts... especially when trying to ovedrive it. you'll probably want to end up getting an attentuator for it... (even if it isn't for your primary distortion). sometimes its just hard to beat a vintage/ vintage style tube amp...
Answer:
oh, and the speakers. if the amp is open back, just take a ruler and estimate them... they will be 8", 10", or 12". i guess you could measure them from the front too.
and how many speakers are there?
Answer:
2.
For a makeshift "attenuator", I put beanbags around the thing and turned the volume up. With all the beanbags though, the distortion wasn't to nice. The beanbags absorbed most of the treble...
I played a 5 watt Les Paul Jr. amp at the store I got this. I loved that thing, but it wasn't loud enough. Though I wish I had gotten a Blues Jr. now. But I'm thankful. Better than that piece of crap I was using before.

I've read a lot of good things about the Vintage Club series amps, I was looking to buy one of the smaller ones a couple years ago, but before I got around to it I started fooling around with modding an amp I already had, which worked out well in the end. Congrats!
Answer:
If you need it quieter, get one of Tom's attenuators. They are cheap and very nice. I, along with several others, use them in our amps and I have yet to hear a complaint.
Answer:
Thanks!
My dad isn't the biggest about giving people our address and stuff like that, so I can't get an attenuator, but I really want/need one.
Answer:
Well, if anyone is willing to pick it up for you, i'm sure Tom will send it anywhere that is convenient. If the arguement helps with your Dad, tell him that 1: It will lower the amp volume, and 2: you pay 35$ total, instead of the 2-300$ it would cost to buy a new one from a major brand.
Answer:
the lone tone knob shouldn't really be bad. i remember playing on a gold tone which only had one tone knob and every setting was pristine (hopefully your crate amp had the EQ knob placed at the sweet spots as well). i passed the opportunity to buy it cheap for the legacy (with very sensitive EQ knobs) and honestly, it takes forever to find a setting that i like.

Know what you mean Matt. My dad is exactly the same, which is why I never got one.

Answer:
Congrats on the new amp Matt!
Answer:
Yes Nick, I don't like parents like that. Oh well, I'll live.
Thanks Dave!
Anyways, I raised my humbucker a little, so that gets a little more gain at lower volumes. Except it's still loud...
