New to this whole ordeal, need lotsa help

Question:
well to make everything short, i've been give the task to figure out whats wrong with the new crossover the youth group just bought. Its a 223xL croxxover made by DBX. I can't quite get the thing to work. all that comes out when i hook everything up is a faint sound of what should be loud. anyone? I'll explain more later.
Answer:
First thing you should check is if the crossover has an "input attenuator" or "output level" knob. That would be my first guess. After that, I'd probably have to ask some more specific questions, but I'm wondering/curious as to how much you know about how crossovers work. What are you trying to accomplish with the crossover?

lol i know absolutely little if not nothing about this. well anyways for the cross over i'm trying to seperate the low tones from the high tones. (bass to woofers and treble to the other speakers . . i forgot the technical name) but thats wut i'm trying to achieve. if anyone is familiar with the dbx 223 model let me know anything and everything about how to work it
