What else (if almost necessary)?
Question: I need help completing my pedal board. Here's the thing. I just want to have a rock outfit, I don't want anything that will mess with that at all. So far I've gotten an Ibanez TS808 TubeScreamer (for solos), Boss TU2 tuner and BF2 flanger (not really necessary, but adds for a very bright clean), Dunlop Dimebag Custom Wah, and MXR M102 DynaComp compressor/sustainer. I don't really want anything like a phaser or tremolo. What else would be convenient for me? I know either a delay or EQ will be a quick reply, but which should I go after, or what else other than that? I've only got 1 more space on my pedal board, so what should fill the spot? Answer: As you guessed, delay. Can you say, DD-6? Or DD-5, but they don' make those anymore... I think. Or the Line 6 delay modeler. Of course, that might be too big for your pedal board. Answer: Sounds to me like you need another dirt pedal. A TS-9/808 is good for bluesy stuff, but not for much that's harder than that. It's not an all-encompasing pedal. You say you want something for a "rock outfit". Specifically, what kind of sound are you after? There isn't one specific pedal to recommend until that's known. Answer: Maybe a nother distortoin? Answer: distortion or delay. if the Line 6 DL-4 delay is too big, than get a distortion. I like the Jeckyll and Hyde or Fulltone Fulldrive 2, but those might be too big as well. just play with lots of different pedals before you buy. Answer: visual sound H2O Answer: Originally Posted by iAMspartacus visual sound H2O exactly my thoughts...you need a chorus pedal and the delay is nice to have to cause it covers such a wide range due to the 3 knob adjustments for it i would recommend another distortion too before you called it done. you can always get another pedal board or just run one on the floor next ot the board. check out fulltone for the distortion or i hear the jekyl and hyde is good Answer: I definitely second the second overdrive recommendation, it's a simple solution to add more dynamics to your rig. Have you considered picking up a volume pedal? I couldn't make it without mine. Allows me to mute myself whenever necessary and control my volume when my hands are occupied. Ben Answer: what kind of amp do you have? how do you define "rock"? so far the best suggestion i've heard is is volume pedal. i do have to say that i'm wrong the school of "less can be more"...if you dont' need pedals then take them out, it'll improve your tone. right now my guitarist is running just guitar-->amp (peavey classic 50 410) and it sounds amazing. Well you mine as well also have a boss tu 2 in there. Alot of bands pedals just consit of a boss tu tunner. If he's not happy with his effects, get those before the TU-2. Its useful, but doesn't affect your sound. Answer: he already has a tuner... lets face it, we can't really give any advice until he comes back and says what he's using and what sound he's going for. Answer: yup. Answer: I was talking to steve. He said hes just using his guitar into his amp. And i said well you mine aswell put a tunner into the lineup. Answer: To answer everyone's questions, I use the distortion on my stack, because I just can't get the heaviness I want in any pedal I've ever played. By "rock outfit", I mean like Demon Hunter, Disciple, Killswitch Engage-y type stuff. All of them basically just use their amps, tuner, and some effects for insane riffs and solos. I mainly got the TS808 to pump up the high end of the gain for my solos, not to use as a primary distortion unit. That's what the gain boost on my amp is for, but I keep it on almost all the time to get a good, full overdriven tone. I am perfectly content using the overdrive on my amp, so I wasn't exactly looking for another distortion pedal. I hope that answers some of your questions. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
