Which Pedal

Question:
Okay, I'm looking to get put a new pedal on my x-mas list. I mostly only play at church right now, but I'm also working on a band where I would need some distortion. Now right now I have a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, which, don't get me wrong, is a great pedal. I can get some really nice sounds and even some lighter distortion if I put the gain on 0-3 But I need something a little more.. appropriate(sp?) for church. I'm looking for either the Boss Super Overdrive, or Overdrive, or maybe the Boss Blues Driver. Anyone have any recommendations to which would be better? I'm probably gonna stay with Boss because while they are a bit pricey I love the quality of their pedals and the effects they come with. So, which of these would better suit worship and maybe lighter distortion for some rock?
Answer:
well from what i understand the SD-1 and BD-2 are set up more for pushing your amp. from what i understand there is some gain, but it's not TONs of gain. I suppose the appropriate follow up questions are:
what do you consider an "appropriate for church" sound?
what type of guitar and amp do you currently have?
and the SD-1 shouldn't be too expensive...GC used to have them for $49.99.
Answer:
At church I play a Standard Strat through a Fender Ult.Chorus or a Carvin MTS Combo. And I'm looking for something with a little punch but something that doesn't do just metal stuff. Maybe like light distortion sound, and a smooth creamy sound for licks, fills, riffs, solos ect. Basically something in between clean and the MT-2. If niether of these has it and someone else has some better suggestions I'd be happy to them also.
Answer:
i would highly recommend the barber direct drive (ss if you so choose)
i played with my friends in an open stage (through a fender deville) and i practically went numb. the drive was so dynamic and tasty...
just keep in mind that boss isn't your only choice...

Doesn't your amp (the Carvin) have a dirty channel?
Answer:
Yea, but it's only good for like.. classic rock. You can't do too much with the distortion on my amp. And usually I think pedals give you a better distortion unless your amp's is just really good.

wow...that's pretty much the opposite of conventional thought.
for what you're looking for there's alot of options. i'd check out the Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde pedal, and the Route66. Both are a little pricey ($129) but the customer service is supposed to be amazing, in fact that J&H was just re-made due to customer going, "hey this is a good pedal but it'd be better if..." well the guy who runs VS said, "we'll do it!"

We'll i wasn't looking to spend any more than about 70.. I might check them out but unless they are just totally awesome, I'll probably look for something cheaper.
Answer:
if your gonna look at more pricey stuff check out fulltone while your at it, they will blow you away...
sticking with what you listed though (and as a guitarist who does something similar to what you said you do) i use my amp for a lighter overdrive kinda bluesy sound, then have a fulltone on my line for distortion.
anyway i think you'd find the BD leaving you wanting in many situations, don't get me wrong i have a similar sound keyed in on my amp that i use but i also like having that extra punch available. if your only gonna have one distortion or overdrive i dont' recommend the BD. the regular old overdrive pedal should do you just fine
Answer:
you'd might like to ask the guys at the carvin board for some settings
they'll be more than happy to help you out
Answer:
^K, will do.
Answer:
I have a ultimate chorus amp and use the super overdrive and it sounds good. But my tone on my clean channel is all wrecked, so I don't know what it would sound like on a normal ultimate chorus
Answer:
Well if you have a metal zone, between that and clean is overdrives, id check out the pro co rat 2 i love it.
Answer:

Click here for the Boss OS-2 on Musiciansfriend.com Sounds like a pretty good deal. The reviews looking pretty nice on it too. I'm just hoping that it won't sacrifice too much quality being a 2 in 1 pedal.
