Grr.. Amp Problems

Question:
This is the 1st problem I have had with my Spider II. It's still under the 30 day policy... So I will probably exchange it. I was playing with no distortion and a little reverb and all of a sudden, I heard nothing. I made sure it wasn't the pickup selecter, pickups, or volume control on my guitar. I went up close to the amp and could hear it very faintly. But when I turned the volume knob a tiny bit up, it went back to high, then to low, very quickly. Is this a defect of all Spider II's or just mine?
Answer:
i remember hearing something about this when i did my research when i was looking at bouying an amp...powering it on and off is what fixes it temp i think...it's like a problem with the wall input...look around a little and you might find more data...post what you find back here, i'd like to see it.
Answer:
It has never happened before with this amp or others, and I use the same wall plug. And yes, powering off then back on did fix it temporarily... Is it a defect in the amp?
Answer:
I'm going back to GC anyway this weekend, so I will exchange it for a new one.
Answer:
it's not that amp, it's the spider II in general...i forget details but it's like something about small fluctations in wall power triggering an internal safety of some sort...i wish i could remember were i got this...have you looked at www.harmony-central.com yet? i'm goo\nna check it now...
Answer:
well i'm still looking for that article i was talking about...man i wish i had some clue at least to were i saw it...wish i could be more help...if you talk to line 6 they might be able to tell you why the amp does that...i wish i could remember the details on why...let me know what happens...
Answer:
Thanks. I emailed their support and should get a reply within 36 hours.
Answer:
It's not Spider II's in general.
I've had my 112 75watt for about 2 years and have used it a few hundred times and never had a single problem.
Check with Line 6 customer service to see if they can give you some insight.
Answer:
Do your amp effects include a noise gate? If its sensitivity level is set too high, it will shut off your sound quickly. Try lowering the sensitivity to allow for more noise. I discovered this in my son's Johnson amp.
Answer:
Yes I have a noise gate. It was turned up high. I will see what happens, but since I am still under the 30day return policy, I will get a new one just in case.
Answer:
afaik, the built-in noise gate on the Spider II is not in-effect unless a particular start-up routine of pushed-buttons is followed.
Answer:
Actually, I think it remembers that the NG is on, after you turn it off then back on. Say if you have the noise gate on w/ insane distortion, then turn the amp off and back on, the noise gate is still there, because if it wasn't you'd hear a bunch of unwanted noise.
Answer:
My amp does this to me, and ive figured out it was my cables, and my guitar input. Have you checked those?

You can also try editing and saving your own settings with lower noise gate levels for those that you think don't need it. By the way, was that working for you?
Answer:
and did you get a new amp and/or find out exactly what the problem was?
