I deleted the last psycho thread and brought it to the appropriate people's attention. That was just... ...weird.
Answer:
I'd still get a Pod XT.

That's a thought-provoking analysis.
Answer:
? What are you specifically wanting opinions about? The website?, GENX modelers in general, the patch samples, the idea of marketing CD's with patch samples on them (is that what they are?) ... ????

I did... And just returned it this past sunday...
I did all my homework on the units. Boss, POD, Digitech... I decided on the POD for several reasons...
1) My guitar teached at the time used one for his new albumn and compared to my GNX3, I thought the tones sounded much better. (at least to my inexperienced ears it did).
2) The online user support is top notch absolutely the best around.
3) Tones. From what I have heard from users the XTL sounded great.
And so I sold my GNX3 on ebay and caughed up the difference for the POD XTL. At first, the tones sounded warmer and smooth. Especially through headphones. It sounded pretty good. The presets IMO, were not so useable in anyway and most of them needed, IMO, much tweaking. The clean tones of the POD are fantastic, you can't get much better.
So I took a few days in tweaking the very easy to tame beast known as the POD XTL. Going into my first sunday, I had some really good cleans and wah's to use. But I was very unimpressed withy my distortion tones. I plug directly into our churches PA system and all my distorted tone were sounding just plain bad IMO. I was able to tweek the current distortion to make it playable but was not happy. Then came practice on Tuesday. All I did was tweak tones all night. They sounded great coming through headphones and monitors at home. But then at church, I could not duplicate. Close but not right.
Now I know that close might be all I am to achieve. Different system, speakers, EQ, yada yada yada... (And yes, XTL was connected correctly to the system, which is very important).
Here is the straw that broke the camels back for me. The second Sunday I had the XTL, I had previously downloaded a patch that someone created and posted on Line6 forums of 'Gilmours Another Brick in the Wall' solo. It was almost spot on... Sounded really good. I was excited to try it at church. I plugged in, and all I heard was a tin can. I could not dial in the tone...
The intresting thing is that with my former GNX3, I never had that problem. Never. Usually, the only thing I would need to change would be gain, or eq or something similiar very minor...
My other choice in Effect pedals was the GNX3000. Their newest technology in "Component Modeling". So I took the POD XTL back and exchanged it for the GNX3K. And I love it. Maybe my ears have been trained to like the tones of Digitech or something. But so far, this thing is great.
My biggest complaints with the POD XTL where this.
1. Distortion tones are great, if you play metal. I heard that the other Model Packs had the better amps and cab models, but that is another $100.00 bucks. I could not find a good distortion that I could tone down the gain and not lose the crunch. If you dialed down the Lows, you lost all the tone. It was frustrating.
2. No Acoustic simulator - Unless you have a Variax. What's up with that? The GNX3000 has 2 acoustic Simulators and they sound pretty good.
3. I didn't think this was such a big deal, but I really did miss the drum machine. The GNX3K has 80 Rhythms to choose from and they sound alot better than the GNX3 model.
4. I could not duplicate tone from Home to Live - Which is what the POD was all about I thought...
The GNX3K has some great preset tones. The POD XTL had some great one too. But like I said most of the presets IMO where not even useable. Of course some tweaking is to be expected, but compared to the GNX3K the presets are fantastic... From the Carvin Legacy Series to Slash, To a Zakk wylde preset, to floyd/gilmour tones...
GNX3K IMO is a fantastic tool...
