Marshall is starting to get stoned by players.
Question: Can I ask why people are starting to say marshall is overrated and high priced? They arent that expensive if you buy them from the uk. And frankly, you cant say the new jcm2000 series sound bad. Who like me likes marshall? of course UPS is really expensive, but lets say you count 100$ for ups postage from the UK the tsl60 still only costs 750$. Its not THAT expensive for what it is. I must admit I still need to try the amps cranked up but even at low volumes they sound better than solid state or even hybrid amps. Answer: I like the all tube Marshalls. It's harder to get a Marshall from a UK dealer to the US, then just to get it from a US dealer. The AVT Marshall 100 watt combo (hybrid 1x12), for example, is selling on MusiciansFriend for $700. The TSL60 head sells for $1,200. So when you consider it, yes, it's expensive for what it is. It might cost up to $200 for shipping from the UK to the US. Answer: even 200$ makes it cheaper. I know marshall aint mesa boogie(which I aint ever tried) but they do still make quality amps Answer: I just think that the quality of the newer Marshall stuff isn't up to par with it's name. I love all the pre-JCM900 stuff, because that's the stuff that made "Marshall" such a great name. But c'mon, the Mode 4??? The Mode 4 is a joke. I can't believe they charge that much for something so bad. I've never been a huge fan of the TSL or DSL series either. I won't say they're bad, but I wouldn't pay that much for them. Answer: My church has DSL 401 combo all-tube amp.. its extremely good.. but the thing i can't believe, they got it for only S$900 ( US$588).. Answer: i run a jcm200 dsl 50 as my primary amp rig. The dsl is extremely versitile, but doesn't seem to be in use by a lot of the Christian guitarists these days. I like it, it's never gone out on me, and it feels solid- i do baby the thing though. The high end is monsterous and is hard to get under control without bone-crushing volume, or an attenuator. it's sounds golden when it's recorded cranked up with an sm57 on it mixed with a condenser mic- simply awesome. but to each his own, tone is such a personal thing. are they overpriced? i think that they probably are. They run around the same money as mesa, which doesn't cut through all that well compared to marshall. If i had it to do over again i'd look very closely at a Dr. Z combo of some sort, or a matchless. just my thoughts. Answer: I'm certainly not talking about the mode4 which looks crap. I mean all tube marshalls. As said the jcm2000s are pretty good. Answer: from what i understand the modefour actually has it's purposes. you can argue that it is overpriced, but i've been told that the amp itself isn't necessarily a horrible thing. That nice overdrive you can let ring during worship? www.cornfordamps.com and go to sounds and find mk head by the way the thing about them being as expensive as mesa Is uterly wrong( in europe anyway). Over here a single rectifier is wait for it 1700$!!!!! and a dsl50 head is 700 imported from the UK Answer: i really like marshall all tube amps but there hybirds i do not like at all Answer: Originally Posted by wesley7777 i really like marshall all tube amps but there hybirds i do not like at all Actually I find the old valvestates pretty good for the money. But yeah the AVT ones suck!!! Answer: Originally Posted by Thepilot i run a jcm200 dsl 50 as my primary amp rig. Can u use a footswitch with 2 switches. 1st switch to switch between classic gain and ultra gain. And second to switch between ultra1 and ultra2? Answer: Where can I order Marshalls from the UK from here (the US)? I'm curious, because if I can get them so cheap, then it'd be nice to know where. Otherwise, I'd have to pay $1,200... Answer: i think the reason a lot of people "bash" marshalls is because in america, the price range can offer many other high quality amps that in fact offer "better" clean channels, "better" drive channels, or both. "better" depends on taste though and nowadays, with so many choices, the marshall glove doesn't fit all on a side note, i'm tempted to sell everything and buy myself a JCM800 2203 reissue...even though i'm skeptical over the marshall control quality (which is also another issue) Answer: why buy a reissue? you can probably score the real thing in the same price range (at least i've found this true for alot of other older amps) Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
