Welcome to www.thanktoday.com !!!

i give you my taste in music, you suggest a amp

Question:
this, my ladies and gentlemen, can be used as a "what should i buy" thread.
so, lets just say that I, theoretically speaking, was to buy a guitar and amp.
and that I prefer metal/emo/new metal,
but that i at the same time really enjoy that clean soft sound...
what should i buy, as i would "need" both?
i am looking for brand, as an individual model could cost too much.
but if we're speaking brands i have a little more to choose from
heh.
thanks folks!
Answer:
Well, what kind of money range are we talkin here?
Answer:
a lot of your clean soft sounds will depend on your use of the "tone" knob on your guitar and the EQ on the amp>>>>>
it's hard to find an amp with great clean and dist channels. it's either an amp with a great dist channel and a mediocre clean one or a great clean channel and a mediocre dist channel. you might want to check out the peavey JSX or the carvin MTS for all of the goodness.
i think dickensonamps has something to say as well ;-)
Answer:
haha spartacus, this is the first time I've disagreed with you on anything but the JSX would be a BIG no for me. The dist. wasn't all that great, and the cleans. not so tasty.
As for our buddy who started the thread:
Man you sure are asking quite a bit. Spartacus was right when he said it's hard to find an amp with a great clean *AND* dist. I mean, we're talking boutique now, in which case, the user Dicksonamps can help you. The tube marshall stuff has decent cleans and is pretty renowned for their distortion. Give Marshall a try, make sure it's ALL TUBE though. That means tubes in the pre and power amp.

feel my wrath!!!!

Answer:
peavey ultra or xxx...i know some bands have been able to make do with those.
the problem with picking brands is that brands usually have a wide selection, for example a Marshall JCM 800 wuld cover the metal/emo/nu-metal side extremely well, but it might not do the clean so much (never tried it)...however another Marshall amp might. i suppose the best thing would be to suggest both...and now that i think of it...
if you really want to cover all of that what i would do (likely) is get a good Fender tube amp and an amazing overdrive/distortion pedal. there's this guy at church that's been using an older Fender amp (like a bandmaster, or something similar...twin reverb would be a good choice) in tandem with a Ibanez TS9DX and a Proco Rat...and he gets really HIGH gain sound and i'd imagine that the cleans are pristine too (he mostly plays leads though). so yeah...i'd go for a good clean amp and then throw on some high-gain pedals in front.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the promo.
Xaer_Ona, The amp of mine that Casey hinted at would be 'The Mustang'. Ultra High Gain channel and a pristine clean channel. I have played it next to a JCM800, and the JCM800 at maximum gain had almost as much distortion as my amp on '4' (out of '10'). Check out the site (the link at the end of this post) and listen to the sound clips. Let me know if you have any questions.
God Bless,
Berry

hmm... that sounds nice...
i'll give my normal recommendation - vox valvetronix line. nice warm cleans, good smooth overdrive, good crunchy distortion, and some nice high-gain distortion. very nice modelling technology and acts incredibly tube-like, which in part it probably due to the 12AX7 that is driven as a power amp.
there are levels of the valvetronix line. the low end prices range from $180 for the AD15vt, $240 for the AD30vt (the one i own), $360 for the AD50vt (all combo amps).
the high-end valvetronix prices - $800 for the AD60VTX combo, $450 for the AD60VTH (head), $600 for the AD120VTH (head), 2x12 cab ($450), 4x12 cab ($600).
definitly check this line out. its like... digital, tube, and SS in perfect harmony. read up on vox's website on these ( http://www.voxamps.co.uk/products/va...vtOverview.htm ). they have some nice demos and information there. also, check out http://www.harmony-central/user_reviews these amps score pretty highly on there; even with those spectical. and definitly, if you get the chance, definitly try one out.

Answer:
Id go with an Orange amp.
Answer:
Personaly, i like the line 6 stuff. there are a lot of options on there spyder II series. its crazy
Answer:
I'll second the Peavey ultra has what you are looking for.
Gobs of high gain and sweet clean channel, all that won't break your bank.
ALthough if you've got the money then I'd go for one of those dickson mustangs.

Xaer, I would disregard the above statement if I were you, and wait till you hear some evidence of his claims.

Answer:
agreed...it's popular on the amps and accessories forums to make claims without grounds.
one of the main complains i personally have with Line6 is that i don't want to take the time to set one up. i'm a plug and play sort of guy. from what i understand though, the Line6 HD147 might be something you'd want to look at.
