Has anyone tried out the yamaha magicstomp?
Question: What do you think of it?? Answer: Not yet, but judging by everything else Yamaha, it should be top notch. It comes with a CD of downloadable patches and Yamaha will maintain a website with more. My only wish would be an XLR out. He had ONE yesterday when I called, but they sold SIX of them in the first two weeks they came in! So I have to pickup my check from work today and I will see.....I'll post back and let you know if I get it! Answer: Originally Posted by webe123 Well I think I am getting one today! It sounds incredible and has enough effects to keep me satisfied for a long time! Answer: Originally Posted by webe123 Just picked up mine today! Answer: Well....okay, since you are twisting my arm! (HE! HE!) Well, I have to say that I really like this unit! It goes great with my Line 6 flextone 3 amp! I use the amp for my distortion, but I like the chorus, flange and special effects on the magicstomp! I have not used it with my computer, but I will probably load some of the sounds that are on the disk that came with it later on. It also has a decent effect for my accoustic guitar, though I use a boss AD 3 for that. If you have any specific questions....just ask and I will try to answer them as best I can! Answer: I would also reccomend you guys find a yamaha dealer and try one out! Just put it through its paces! Hook one up to an amp, put the amp on a clean setting and use a good guitar and see for yourself if you like it or not! I really like the shimmering effects like chorus and flange, but it has some decent distortion, just not what I use. Answer: Can you explain how you move from patch to patch? Are the patches set up in banks? Answer: Basically it has a + and a - button and as far as the presets go, it either goes forward or backward. There is no banks that I can tell! But if you use the 99 user slots, you can pretty well set it up to be accessed any way you want. Like having your favorite sounds in order of importance, you can have the sounds you use all the time in the first few slots and then those that you don't access as much after those! I don't think ANY guitarist uses 99 user slots though, that would be a LOT of sounds to remember! Still it is there if you need it! Answer: I've read some reviews claiming that the Magic Stomp's sound quality surpasses the DG Stomp. But judging by your description of the patch switching mechanism, it sounds like the Magic Stomp isn't as handy in a live situation as a DG Stomp. The MagicStomp also has a Performance mode for the three buttons so that you can use them to access a bank of three patches. Pressing and holding the minus or plus button will move up or down to the next bank of three patches. Otherwise, it is in Up/Down mode where the minus buttons moves down a patch, and the plus button moves up a patch. Answer: You do realize this thread is a year and a half old now, right? That's really nice to know, though. I just ordered one of these this week as I am about to start as a worship leader for a young adult service in our area. I've done worship stuff for a while with my acoustic, but this will be my first electric attempt. I normally play bass in my band, but started out playing guitar anyway. I already purchased a Tele copy from Rondo Music earlier this year along with a Vox AD-30VT that I will be using for this along with my plugged-in acoustic. After accepting this position I decided to buy another pedalboard for guitar (mine now is for bass stuff), so I got the board along with an A.R.T. DI box, A.R.T. A/B/Y switcher, Dunlop volume pedal, Danelectro Fab Tone Distortion and the Yamaha MagicStomp box. This will allow me to have one cable for acoustic or electric guitar and be able to switch outputs with the A/B/Y switch to the DI box for my acoustic or to the amp for the electric. All this stuff just came in yesterday, so I haven't even had a chance to plug it in and try it yet, but the MagicStomp seems like a very sturdy unit and the ability to edit via computer is quite an added bonus. The thing only runs $89 bucks now at Musician's Friend. There's a $40 rebate sticker on the box, but that expired January 31 of this year. Oh well, still a steal.
