Ebay Scam!

Question:
I got this question on one of my auctions. The item can be purchased new for $500! I reported. It's tempting to play along, but I think I'll just ignore it

My name is Viona from Medan, North Sumatra. Exactly in Indonesia. I'm very interest to buy your item . Can you ship to Indonesia? If you can do that, I would like to make a purchase to your item. My offer is $700.00 + shipping cot,.The payment method is using credit card. And I want my credit card charge directly by Credit Card merchant. The shipping by TNT Courier Wolrdwide. And therefore let me pay for all the shipping cost. Mail me back, Many Thanks Dr. Viona Nst
Answer:
Umm... This is not the right place for that...

I am trying to decide where to put it...

Lol, sorry I don't really get it. She's offering 700 bucks for something thats only 500 bucks, and she wants to use credit card by credit card merchant? What exactly is credit card merchant?
Answer:
I am shipping this off to GD...

Whoooosh...

*Heh I've always wanted to say that*
Answer:
I don't understand what the scam is... explain?
Answer:
The person is offering 200 dollars more than the worth of the item new.
Answer:
perhaps there is a loophole where he ships the item, and he doesn't get the money... not sure how this may work with credit card stuff...
maybe the credit card is stolen...
if they want the item, they can purchase it through the eBay auction; that is the safest. scams almost never occur when selling through eBay, but you are on your own if you take if off eBay and sell it yourself - that is definitly the most risky...
my $.02
Answer:
This is how it works, you don't send it till you have the money. It's the one PAYING THE CASH that is taking a risk, not the one selling. Cause it's a givin in e-bay circles that you don't ship your product till you know you have the other persons cash.

As soon as I got the email it sounded familiar. I'm sure I've read of an Ebay scam that started out in this manner. However, I've done a couple of searches and can't come up with anything.
I can't say definitively that this is a scam. However, it sure smells a little 'off.' Why would somebody (with zero feedback I might add) want to buy a used item from me for $200 more than they can purchase the same item new? And why would they be willing to pay almost $100 in shipping? And why even bother to email me? With what they're willing to spend, they would surely win the auction. And why stipulate the shipper and the payment terms? If they have a credit card they can buy a Money Order or open a Paypal account. Sometimes, if it walks like a duck.....
And Becky, you're right, as long as I stick to the conditions I set out in my auction I'm not risking anything.
Answer:
I say it's a scam...
But this has given me tips for future eBay selling...
Answer:
I can't remember where, but i've read about something on eBay that happened almost exactly like this and it was a scam. Stay away is my advice.
Answer:
I'd bet 95% this is a scam......
The fact that she has 0 feedback, is willing to pay so much, PLUS that she is trying to make all the stipulations like how the credit card will be charged and who the shipper is, it all reeks of scamminess. I'd email her and say you'll do it only by your terms or she can walk, just to see what kind of reaction you get. Or just report it.
What's the item, btw?

I emailed her saying just that (my conditions). Not surprisingly, no response yet.
The item is a full POD rig (POD 2.0/Floorboad/gig bag).
Answer:
Do not accept any form of payment from her! It is a scam. I had a "Nigerian Prince" offer to buy my laptop with an email just like that. He now has a feedback score of (-3). He sent a guy a fake Western Union transfer (how I don't know). They'll most likely use a credit card they stole. I'd report him/her and keep selling your item.
