Attaching pedals to a board
Question: I've got a new board coming tomorrow, and the pedals use velcro to attach, a pretty common thing I guess. How do you guys stick the velcro on the pedals so they stay in place? Horizontal, vertical, in the middle...most of my pedals have a rubber edge, and a slightly recessed center where there is no rubber. I just want to make sure they stay put as best as possible when I am toting it around. This is the one I bought, with power supply, for reference. http://www.gatorcases.com/productsmo...ID=121&MID=348 Answer: I would keep the velcro at the edge, so that if you need to move it, you can get a finger under it so it doesn't pull off the pedal. Other than that, I don't think it really matters where it goes. Answer: I went with strips across the pedal - 1 on top and 1 on bottom - 1 in middle on a large one like a Wah. Answer: I use one large peice of velcro straight down the middle. Pedals with rubber bottoms are difficult. I actually superglue the velcro to the bottom to keep it from pulling off. It works good as long as you don't plan on reselling those pedals(even then, it isn't that big of a deal). Metal bottoms are no big deal. Answer: Some pedals I removed the rubber. Others I used glue. But the best option was to build a metal brace that screwed to the bottom of the pedal, and then the velcro attached to the metal. That way it could be removed and the pedal would still look like new if I ever wanted to sell it. Answer: I've had some stuff that the vlecro stayed on, and others where it came off. I would suggest cleaning the surface with Windex or rubbing alcohol prior to sticking it on. Also, many adhesives like that need to cure overnight to reach their max adhesion, so wait a day after sticking it before pulling the pedal back off. These days I don't mess with velcro, I just drill a hole on either side of the pedal and either use a wire tie, or some cable - using it like a twist tie. Its cheaper and never comes off. If I want to reposition something later, I just drill a couple more holes. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
