New POD XT Live... And loving it...

Question:
I sold my GNX3 on ebay this week and picked up my new POD XT Live.
I had already heard the POD compared to my GNX3 and really could tell the difference before I decided to buy one. I am glad I did. I really, with what little time I have spent with it, have ejoyed noodling with it. The clean tones you can pull out of this thing are fantastic. The distorted tones are endless. And endless is the key word I think.
You really have to sit down and learn how to work this thing. The options and possibilities are almost endless.
I read alot of reviews from people regarding the POD, and alot of people complained about not being able to get the tones they wanted through their amps. But I wonder how many people never, read the manual.
I bring this up because I think POD really set up a great device. When setting up you have to tell the POD what you are playing into. Infront of the amp, Direct through a PA or recording or Headphones. You also have to tell it if you have normal pickups or high output/active pups. Last night I played through some headphones, and I will tell you what, the thing sounded great.
Another great feature is all the online support. From Tones, to songs, to lessons, to features, to direct PC recording and editing, POD has really done a great job with this.
Last night I went on and downloaded all the drivers and software. In about 20 mins I was able to download an old Night Ranger song, I had the option to take out the rhythm, lead, bass guitars one or all and then play the song with the options I had left out. Amazing. Downloading tones is so easy. And pulling up lessons with TAB is cool to.
I was looking at the Boss GT-8, which has great tones as well, great features, effects. It is more money, but I found the POD XT live to be the complete package from tones to useability to online support. I can't wait till I have more time to really set up what I want.

Hey Leviathon
I've been down the same road, selling my GNX4 and going to the xtlive. Both are awesome units, and i was tempted to keep the GNX4 for recording because it did this so well.
I miss the conectivity of the GNX4, but the XT is proving much more intuitive to use live. I love those big silver knobs
I run mine in studio direct mode and let the guys at the desk dial in what they need front of house. I run a bit of delay and reverb on every preset, which really warms things up and gives a nice full sound. Sure beats carting a 30kg amp around as well!!!
Enjoy!

Well, after about 2 weeks, I took the XTL back to Guitar Center. I thought it sounded great at home and plugged in through monitors and headphones. But when I would get it to church. I could never replicate the tones I was hearing. Never. I was constantly changing them trying to get them to sound like they would at home. I had it connected correctly to the PA system. I don't know what it was.
I went back to Digitech and bought the GNX3000. And so far I am very happy with. I didn't realize how much I was going to miss the acoustic simulators and the drum machine and I really did.
I also had a hard time trying to dial in a good distorted tone that would work at church. The GNX3K has a patch called 'Slash' after Slash of course. And it is perfect. I couldn't get anything to sound that way. Clean, crunchy, perfect lows and mids. I don't know what it was...
O well....

I hate running things direct, even a POD. Did you ever try putting it through and amp and micing that?

No, were are not allowed to use amps... Even for monitors... or micing...
We all have direct boxes and ear monitors...
I really don't know what the problem was with the XTL... But having the GNX3000 now for a few more days, I am really happy with it...

I'm in the same boat. We used to use stage monitors and I was able to get some good sounds from my ancient Boss ME-5 (one of the first floor based guitar processor/pre-amps ). Now we have switched to personal mixers and my tone is suffering. I am now in the market for a new board. The POD and the Boss GT units are high on my list right now. I appreciate your comments about the GNX3000, I'll have to add that to my list of possibilities.
