I just bought a DS-2 today, and I like it a lot, but this is my first pedal, so I don't really know that much about getting the sound that I want. So my question is basically how do I get the sound that I want if I'm learning to play a certain song? Or if you have any suggestions on how to get the right (or close to right) sound for different genres, that would also be helpful.

the biggest tip is just to play with it alot and figure out how each knob effects the tone.

do you use amp distortion also?.....this would definitely be a factor....but lets say you want to play nirvana's smells like teen spirit...the ds-2 would be perfect and wouldn't need extra amp distortion....if you want to play let's say switchfoot you obviously wouldn't want to crank up the distortion as much....

Twist the knobs, and get a real feel for how all of them affect your tone.
I think something you could try is copying the sounds you favorite artists get by twisting knobs.
