Distortion comparable to the "Hyde" side of a J&H?
Question: I really like the distortion from the "Hyde" side of my Jekyll & Hyde, but I rarely use the "Jekyll" side (I use a Fulldrive II as my Tubescreamer clone OD already). Seeing as how the J&H eats up a LOT of real estate on my board, when I'm only using one-half of it, what are some distortion options similar to the "Hyde"? I had a Rat (reissue) for a while and may go back to it (though I'll have to buy another one), but I wanted to get some other options before making the decision. Answer: I have had both a J+H and a Vintage Rat. I think the Rat sounds similar in some ways to the Hyde side of the J+H. Not the same though. Definitely two different pedals. Answer: I believe the Hyde is supposed to be based off of the Marshall Guv'nor from the 80s. You might be able ot achieve Hyde-ish tones with a Guv'nor or actually a Boss DS-1 if you tweak it a bit. that being said, is there any use you might have for that Jekyll side that is different than what you're already doing with the FD2? Have you put any thought into combining the two TS808 clones for a different tone? back when I had my Hot Rod Deluxe, I used the J side of the Jekyll and Hyde as a clean boost to really fatten up the "drive" and "more drive" channels. I found them much more usable in that state. Answer: The two pedals I've heard referenced the most in conjunction with the Hyde is the Proco RAT and the Marshall Guv'nor. I believe that a Guv'nor is about the same size as J&H, and the RAT isn't really likely to save you much real estate either....if you like it I'd just live with the size, or maybe get/build a bigger pedal board... Answer: Visual Sound announced some new pedals at NAMM, among them single pedal versions of the Route 66, J&H, and H20, though I can't remember (and couldn't find) which side of the J&H is going to be released as a single pedal. Answer: I'd probably use that as an excuse to get a bigger pedalboard... If you're really into saving space, I suppose a Keely modded DS-1 could get a sorta similar tone. Both sides are being released as stand alone pedals. RT808 (Jekyll) and Son of Hyde (Hyde). A stand alone compressor is being released as well. There's a NAMM photo floating around on another forum. Looks like they also have a fuzz octave, chorus and a new dual OD (The Double Trouble). I just checked the VS website - no details yet. Answer: Anyone happen to know if they're planning any release of the H2O's chorus in single pedal form? I'd be interested in that... Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. Answer: There is a chorus single pedal if I remember correctly. Edit...Picture! Answer: Originally Posted by LWatford There is a chorus single pedal if I remember correctly. Edit...Picture! so are the new one's still true bypass... I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the new look; appears rather cheap to me. And what about the switches??? they concern me. I, too, am concerned with the new switches. they sorta look like the dano switches. I like the idea of the compacting the size tho. i know, atleast on my pedalboard, the j+h takes up a pretty huge chunk of space. oh yeah.. what's that green one on the far right? i've never seen that before Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
