Distortion!
Question: So I just got my fender blues deluxe (awesome) and while the gain is sweet for the blues, it's not overly heavy. Before, I was using a VOXAD30VT which had some decent distortion on it. I don't need anything Pantera like, but I need a good sound for the Tomlin stuff. Something with some punch and bite. I've already got a Bad Monkey. Great for light dirty sounds, but I need something a little heavier. Suggestions welcome. Sort of thinking of either a Boss DS-1 or maybe a Digitech Hot Head. For reference, something that sounds like Tomlin's Let God Arise. Answer: I'm not particularly familiar with that song, but regardless, what sort of budget are you looking at for this? Answer: Maybe a Rat? Answer: Demonizer? I know it doesnt sound very "Godly", but i've heard excellent things. Answer: I'd say Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde or a ProCo RAT. Answer: have you turned up the gain on your amp and then put the OD pedal in front of it? that'll crunch it up some. Answer: A VS Jekyll and Hyde will cover you for pretty much anything you are going to need, unless you randomly decide to start playing Demon hunter. Answer: For reference, something that sounds like Tomlin's Let God Arise. Watch Daniel Carson's video on worshipfrequency.com. It mentions all of his gear. He uses a ProCo RAT on that song, if I remember correctly. The drive channel is very light, even mixed with the OD pedal. It's great for bluesy stuff, light drive, but it's not really full on distortion. Answer: What do you have the volume set at? Answer: To be honest, I've not been able to let it fully out. I get around 2 at my house and the walls start to shake. I should be able to give it a good go Sunday. You might want to think about picking up or building an attenuator. As far as distortion, i have been swearing by the greatness of the jekyll and hyde...until last night. I recently picked up a little big muff and it rocked my face off last night. It's a big, fat full distortion w/ plenty of sustain and I freakin loved it. We did plenty of Tomlin stuff last night at practice and it sounded incredible. Pick one up. (Also, it's a completely different monster than the JH so pick that up too! ) -shane Answer: Originally Posted by WideAwake To be honest, I've not been able to let it fully out. Some of the others could tell you how it works, but all I know is that you can't really get that full distorted sound at lower volumes. Answer: I'd have to say that what you're looking for would be found in either a Tubescreamer or a Jekyll and Hyde... BTW, I'm pretty sure that the Jekyll part of it is a Tubescreamer clone... That's the only way you're going to get real tube distortion at a low volume. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
