Multi-Effects

Question:
The biggest turn-off I have towards multi-effects is the fact that you have to wait a second after you step on it to hear the sound. It's not instantaneous like my pedals.

But I haven't played every multi-effects pedal out there, so I'm looking for some suggestions. Are there any out that are instantaneous?
Answer:
The only unit I know of that sometimes does that is the Boss ME50. Every other unit I have played is instantaneous, including the POD XTL I own.
Answer:
Which ones have you tried? My RP250 doesn't have a noticeable lag. My RP100 did, so it wasn't useful for switching in the middle of a song.
Answer:
I have two major turn offs that keep me from using my XTL live. The first is the D-A and A-D conversion that takes place; I swear, you can feel it. The second is my totally dislike of digital overdrive modelers. I actually can enjoy the modulation effects out of the XTL, the choruses, flangers, reverbs, phasers, delays, etc. But the overdrive and distortion effects seem so unnatural to me.

That's funny because I like the amp models, OD and distortion on my RP250 but am not as impressed with the effects.

Answer:
I never had any noticeable lag from patch to patch on my RP100?
I haven't found a good distortion stomp box on the XTL either. But I love the overdriven amp models.

I like the 808, tubescreamer and Guyatone models on my RP250. I usually combine them with one of the cleaner amp models.

From a review of the Digitech GNX3: "But as for playing live the unit is WORTHLESS and here's why: There's a damn near .5 to 1.0 sec delay when switching effects or patches. UNNACCEPTABLE. "

I've played a few Digitechs and I have friends with pods. Maybe my friends just did something wrong, but I know the Digitechs I have played lag. I don't think I've played the RP250 though. I've played the RP200A and under.
Answer:
The volume cuts out for a split second on the POD.
And I agree that a lot of the pedal distortions on the POD aren't too good, but I do use the RAT model quite a bit. Mostly I use the amp models, which are quite enough tonal variation as is. I add boost effects to the amps as well.

Yeh, mostly I used the screamer and the rat models only, in terms of OD pedal models. Those are good. Some of the others I don't care for as much, but when you get that much stuff in a multifx package, there will always be some that isn't as good as the rest.

I don't notice any delay in signal on my Digitech GNX3000. But, even if it did, I would find a way to work around it. Isn't that what playing the guitar is about? I think the number one problem I see with ME units is operator error and not reading the manual! Even if I'm well versed in my GNX3000, I cannot expect to jump on a POD xtl or Boss GT-8 and be able to tweak settings without reading the manual. While the logic might be similar, the steps in getting there may be different.

Don't judge the RP150/250/350 by an older RP. I have owned both and there have been a lot of improvements; the speed of switching patches is one of them. The GNX3 may also be different than the GNX3000 since it is not designed to be used live.
Answer:
My Boss GT-3 has never delayed. But I am getting annoying feedback from the distortions when I try to use it live.
Single effects pulllling me iinnnnn.
