question about rack effects
Question: so i was watching that hillsong guitar workshop thing on the 'guitar' thread i think and at the end the new guitarist dude talks about his gear. when he was going to explain the effects he uses, i was kinda confused because he went to a box next to his amps with like all these slide in effect things in his rack. it kinda looked like his own mixer! i was very surprised. (i know im a noob) so whats up with these things, it looks like a VERY VERY VERY expensive setup. he mentioned a line6 echo pro, i looked it up and it was like 500 bucks used? Answer: yeah, rack effects are studio-quality, high end stuff. i personally can't find any excuse to buy one (not that i could anyway) Answer: common myth about them being expensive... I like my rack because it is pro grade and cheap... I have a Peavey rockmaster, Lexicon MP 101, Roland SDE 2500, Alesses 31 band eq, going into a peavey classic 120. Realize this has digital delays, and a digital multi effects processorfinally a Power conditioner,Total cost? I am not sure on the power amp. It was a gift and the prices fluctuate. I will say $300, Preamp, $90, Lexicon, $100, Roland $55, EQ $25, power conditioner $30 total cost for main rack $600 Now realize there is nothing to really upgrade on this, it is on par with many $1000+ amps. Racks really can be the cheap way to go these days. Answer: Watching the video, he's actually running a fairly simple rig. From what I could tell, he had a Line 6 Echo Pro (discontinued, it's like a rack mounted DL4, used for delays), a t.c. Electronic G-Force (a multi effect, has delays, reverbs, modulation effects, pitch effects, filter effects, etc.), and a switcher, looked like a Digital Music Corp. GCX (switching the pedals in the rack shelf, and probably his amps). Everything was controlled by a Digital Music Corp. Ground Control Pro (a MIDI controller that recalls the settings from the Echo Pro, G-Force, and switcher). Looked like a wah and volume pedal on the pedalboard, though the volume pedal might be used as an expression pedal for the Echo Pro or G-Force. Line6's rack mount effects (echo pro, mod pro & filter pro) were all discontinued when they came out with with the PODxt pro several years ago. The price for them on EBay (especially the echo pro) has really gone up. Answer: I only have one rack effect, a Roland chorus/delay, for one reason. I can't afford stuff like that. I only have two rack effects cause its all I would ever use, but I have a full on high quality tube amp and effects rack for less than a few overdrive pedals. Total price on my rack effects? $155. Try seeing how far that goes in single pedals. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
