Peavey transtube series

Question:
are these tube amps???
Answer:
Nope, they're tube "emulating" amps. I could be mistaken but I think they have a tube in the preamp, kind of like a Valvestate. Of course I could be thinking of another peavey amp line.
Answer:
i'm just about 100% sure that it's not tube...none...anywhere. it's more like the crate flexwave pre-amp. it's a ss circuit that breaks up gradually as you push it to emulate a tube.
so in answer, no it's not...as far as i know peavey doesn't have any amps with a 12ax7 preamp and a ss power amp.
Answer:
No tubes. Full-on solid state. I know because my practice amp is a Peavey Transtube 258 EFX. It ain't bad, though it's been a little flaky recently.
Answer:
Are you sure that peavey doesn't have any "hybrid" amps...because some guy down at Mikes Music tried to sell me one...hmmm.
Answer:
when i looked at the peavey website, i didn't see any hybrid amps on there.
Answer:
nope, no hybrids
i've heard good things about the transtube technology
if it's in your price range, then check it out. i bet you a tube snob is going to insert his opinion here really soon...
either way, if you're just starting out, it's a nice thing to look into
Answer:
I think the XXL might be hybrid, but I could be wrong.
Answer:
I'm pretty sure the XXl is all-tube...
Answer:
XXL is solid state. The XXX is all tube.
Answer:
Ah, it is solid state. The desription confused me, plus I had read it a few months ago and was going off of memory. But it is solid state. It's like the king of transtube, which still sucks. The XXX is all tube though, definitly.
Answer:
Oh... I see. I thought it was just an XXX without 2 EQ's for the lead and crunch channel...
Answer:
but both the xxl and the xxx have eqs for both channels.
Answer:
As a rule of thumb, most amps advertising themselves as suffix-tube or having a name that somehow describes tubes are usually tube emulators. Not the real deal. Tube emulators suck, real tubes rule. Ever since I've gone tube, that's how I roll from now 'till forever.
Answer:
Peavey did have a series with a tube preamp/SS postamp. I have one. It's called a "Classic Tribute 50 Series" or something like that (not to be confused with the all-tube Classic 30/50 series). It was made somewhere around the 80's and really wasn't even good for a tube or solid state sound. It does have a cool growl to it, but it never gets ultra-clean and the 'pre-gain' never actually moves into the distortion range. It's a wierd amp, really. My biggest pet peeve, though, is that the low end frequency response is just terrible... any low chord (especially power chords) will get super muddy, definitionless and gets buzzsaw-ish.
But anyways... they did make them, back in the day. However, the question is/was about Transtube amps and I can most certainly assure you they do not have actual tubes in them. The "Transtube Technology" was just another solid state way to try and make your amp sound like it had tubes.
