Ax84 Firefly
Question: I'm on the verge of starting a Firefly project. It'll be my first build. http://ax84.com/?pg=associateproject...ect_id=firefly I still haven't found a speaker for it yet (8ohm, 8", <10w). I'm hopefully going to get everything else ordered soon so that I can start on it. I still need to work out the layout (turret/eyelet board) but I think I've got the enclosure figured out (dimensions based straight off the Vox AC30cc1 (top panel) but scaled down). Drawn up in qcad, attached as a pdf. I plan to build it stock, though, I might mess with adding in a tone stack and an attenuator. It should be a pretty sweet little amp when I'm done. If all goes well, I'll likely do some more builds and possibly take a stab at designing something. Answer: I doubt you will need an attenuator with it only being 1/2 watt... But it looks to be pretty sweet, I wish I could do stuff like that... Answer: Check this out if you haven't already. Answer: Originally Posted by AXguitar I doubt you will need an attenuator with it only being 1/2 watt... From what I can gather, it's around 1/2w clean and somewhere around 2w (and I've seen someone rate it 3w) overdriven. Keep in mind that 2 watts would be about 1/2 volume of 20w with other things equal. Though, if I'm running an 8" speaker, I'd expect a little less efficiency from that. Still, I'd imagine it can still get loud. I'd like to be able to be able to get overdrive (preamp or power amp) at bedroom levels... I think I'm also kind of obsessive about the flexibility and controllability aspect. Thus, the attenuator. I understand a lot of what's going on.. though I don't understand _all_ of it. That's why I'm starting with an ax84 project. Start small, learn alot, build bigger. Thanks for making sure I've seen that link. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
