Wah pedal going nuts
Question: So I finally grabbed that Dunlop Crybaby from the youth room at church, and I plugged 'er up, but, when I turn it on, all that happens is a high pitched noise. At first, it just was holding one long note, but then it changed to a rapid succession of high-pitched notes, and the guitar sound doesn't even go through. When disengaged, the guitar plays through it as if it was a cord. Any idea what could be wrong and how I could fix it? I've been looking forward to playing around with wah for a while! Answer: First off, put it first in line after the guitar. Second, make sure it's fully engaged or disengaged. It can get sort of half-switched. Answer: oh and make sure you did not plug into backwards. That what mine did when i was no looking when i plugged in in a rush Answer: Sounds like you might have your cords backwards. Like your guitar is pluged into the "out" side and the amp is pluged into the "in" side. Double check that your running those the right way first. Answer: Ah... It was backwards. That'd do it, then! There's no "Input" or "Output" switch . Thanks, then, ha. I have no pedals at all, so I'm pedal illiterate . By the way, how do you use one of these things? Are you supposed to engage it and just leave it like that or what? I can't seem to adjust wah-ing speed. Answer: you need to move the pedal to make it do anything other than filter your guitar tone at a set frequency. that's about it. Answer: Yes, using a wah is an active thing. Answer: Ahhh... So how does one go about moving it? Just press it and such? The switch doesn't activate with the pedal, for some reason... Maybe I need to tape something on that so it'll actually click when I press down... Answer: the "wah-ing" speed is controlled by your foot. I usually keep mine disengaged except when I'm actually using it. the rest of the time I have it off. Answer: Originally Posted by thesteve the "wah-ing" speed is controlled by your foot. When you press it down, it doesn't actually click the little switch, which, I'd assume, is bad? I have to reach down there with my finger and click it to turn it on. Answer: It's supposed to be kind of hard to turn it on and off, otherwise you'd do it accidentally while using it. Answer: By the way, sorry for all of these questions, I'm a complete and total pedal n00b, ha... Thanks for the help so far! Bob, I'll have to wait for tomorrow to see if stomping on it will turn it on or off... We'll see, I suppose. Answer: Don't stomp on it. Push it down, and then apply a firm steady pressure until it clicks. You have to press down with a bit of force to get it down...if it's not making solid contact, then perhaps it really is broken... though you could probably superglue a couple dimes in there to make better contact. What I mean by "use your foot" however is that when the pedal is engaged, the "wah-wah-wah" sounds, the frequencies being filtered should change. the highest frequencies are with toe down and the lowest with heel down. Answer: Ohhhhhhhhhh... I see now... Yeah, it does click when you apply firm, steady pressure. Can't wait to try it out again tomorrow, then! Thanks for the help so far! I need to get a little more used to pedals... Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
