Laney Amps
Question: Ok, so I heard about this amp company and became interested. My guitar teacher said that they are a British brand that was started in the 70s - 80s right around the time when hairmetal was big and people were modding there Marshalls for more gain. So yeah, apparently they have lots of gain, and a few bands I like use them (including Opeth). But, I haven't been able to find any place that carries them..so I was wondering if anyone had any info or experience with these amps..and if they could tell me anything about them. Thanks, Chester Answer: Originally Posted by jjvacc Ok, so I heard about this amp company and became interested. Thanks, Chester I know Paul Gilbert uses them. That alone sets them pretty high on the awesome scale. As for where to get one, I don't know. I've been trying to figure that one out, myself. Answer: Probably the most famous Laney user is Tony Iommi of Balck Sabbath fame. As far as who sells them...the only place I know to get them is eBay Answer: Laney is a staple in Hardcore and Metal. For some reason you don't hear about them all that often, but they have some serious OD. Answer: let's not forget that dragonforce uses laney amps as well. some of the nicest distorted tones i've heard have come from those amps. Answer: I have only come across two Laney's ever. One I got, the other one sold before I could buy it. Mine is a little combo. Not a bad sound to it. But the stock speaker sounds horrible. I run it through an old Peavey 5150 cab with some Sheffields in it, and it sounds awesome. Answer: Originally Posted by el cabong I have only come across two Laney's ever. Funny thing is, I've done some massive research and can't find exactly what model it is, other than a pro-tube 100. It's essentially a JCM800 clone. It sounds wonderful. I couldn't tell you where you could get one though other than ebay. And the great thing is, they seem to go for ridiculously low prices used. I think that's what I almost got. The guy was selling the Laney for $200 and a 5150 cab for $150. Somebody else beat me to the Laney. But I did get the 5150, so it wasn't all bad. Answer: Dang, that is rediculously low. I want to try one out. Tell me when one of y'all can put a recording up. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
