VS Jekyll and Hyde. EH Small Clone. Boss DD5.
Question: Hey Guys. I just got these three pedals today and they rock. Jekyll and Hyde: This thing is freaking amazing. Where has it been all my life? I have the feeling that I have a LOT of tweaking and playing left to do today but I was able to find the overdrive sound I've been dying for. Great pedal. Small Clone: The perfect chorus pedal. Hands down. The one knob makes it very easy to operate and it just has an amazing sound. Everything that I could ever want out of a chorus pedal. DD5 (w FS5U footswitch for taptempo): This one is intense. I can tell i'm going to be playing with this one for quite some time. I really like a few of the different modes thus far but I haven't found 'the one' yet. This is the most complex of the 3, but it will probably be the most rewarding once I figure it out. It's got a really good digital delay sound. Much crisper and cleaner than what I was using on my Line 6 Spider. Anyone else have a review, suggestion, knob settings, etc? -shane Answer: Originally Posted by snizzle Jekyll and Hyde: This thing is freaking amazing. Where has it been all my life? I have yet to hear someone having any less of a reaction when they got it. Did you get one of the red ones, or an old silver one? I have yet to hear someone having any less of a reaction when they got it. Did you get one of the red ones, or an old silver one? The red one. It's great. Beyond words. I actually don't know why i'm here typing instead of playing, haha. Answer: The Jekyll & Hyde pedals are great. I had one of the older silver ones before I sold all my pedals. The only complaint I had with it was that the OD channel didn't have enough bottom end, and the newer red version adds the bass switch to take care of that issue. Great pedal, great company. Answer: I'm all over the place with the dd5. There's just so many options. modes. *sigh* Any suggestions? I'm going to spend some good, quality time with it tomorrow. The dotted quarter setting seems to be pretty popular (setting 9) and I think it's probably my fav too. Any other tips? -shane Answer: I actually use the straight quarter note most of the time (setting 8). I've been tempted to switch over to the 8th note setting to make it easier to tap out faster songs, but I haven't actually done it. I've coped by just typing faster. Answer: I'm with you on the Small Clone! I love EH effects, they all have such a nice analog feel that no digital pedal can touch IMO! I haven't used the DD-5, but I have a DD-20 that I really like. Unfortunately I personally was looking for a warmer analog delay, but had to come to the realization that I needed more versatility so I bought the DD-20. They are good delays, I use the Tape echo with two heads a lot instead of reverb when I need more atmosphere to my tone. I also like the modulation setting with the dotted quarter note setting (I've become a big fan of The Edge).. It still has a bit of that cold digital feel to my ears on the repeats, but for the versatility it offers I can live with it I've only played the J&H briefly but thought it was a good sounding pedal. I don't have any need for it with my Zvex Box of Rock (soon to be 2 of them on my board), but it is definitly a great sounding pedal! Congratulations on your new gear, I'm sure it will bring lots of tonal joy Answer: Originally Posted by el cabong Welcome to the club. I seem to be the only person who doesn't like this pedal...maybe it's the mods, or maybe something is wrong with mine....but I can't get a single sound out of it that I really like....what do you guys set yours at to make it sound good? Answer: I haven't found a good "Hyde" (right side of the pedal) sound setting yet. Nor have I found a good combined one that I like. But I REALLY like the overdrive on the Jekyll side..exactly what I was looking for. I don't have the pedal here with me but i'll try to look at the settings and let you know tomorrow. -shane Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
